Nam Phan replaces Eddie Yagin, meets Dennis Siver at UFC on FOX 5 in December

A day after losing his opponent for UFC on FOX 5, Dennis Siver has his replacement.

Nam Phan (18-10 MMA, 2-3 UFC) will step in for the injured Eddie Yagin (16-5-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) to meet Siver (20-8 MMA, 9-5 UFC) at next month's event. Phan-Siver is expected to be part of the preliminary card. UFC officials on Wednesday announced the switch.

UFC on FOX 5 takes place Dec. 8 at KeyArena in Seattle and features a main event lightweight title fight between champion Benson Henderson and top contender Nate Diaz.

Yagin was ruled out on Tuesday after suffering a head injury during sparring. He was hospitalized with some swelling on his brain, though it doesn't appear that he will need surgery.

Siver will be fighting for the second time at featherweight. The former lightweight contender dropped to 145 pounds earlier this year and beat Diego Nunes by unanimous decision in April. After a first-round submission loss to Donald Cerrone at UFC 137, Siver is 5-1 in his past six fights.

Yagin was looking to build on the biggest win of his career after a split-decision victory over Mark Hominick at UFC 145 in April. He picked up a "Fight of the Night" bonus in the bout and got his first octagon victory.

Phan got back in the win column at UFC on FOX 4 with a win over Cole Miller after being dominated by Jim Hettes at UFC 141. The veteran of Season 12 of "The Ultimate Fighter" improved to 2-3 in the UFC with the win.

With the change, the UFC on FOX 5 card now includes:

MAIN CARD (FOX, 8 p.m. ET)

Champ Benson Henderson vs. Nate Diaz (for lightweight title)
Alexander Gustafsson vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua
Rory MacDonald vs. B.J. Penn
Matt Brown vs. Mike Swick

PRELIMINARY CARD

Lavar Johnson vs. Brendan Schaub
Mike Chiesa vs. Marcus LeVesseur
Nam Phan vs. Dennis Siver
Bryan Caraway vs. Mike Easton
Ramsey Nijem vs. Joe Proctor
Daron Cruickshank vs. Henry Martinez
John Albert vs. Scott Jorgensen
Tim Means vs. Abel Trujillo
John Cholish vs. Yves Edwards

I actually thought BJ was going to get wrecked until I saw he was training with Funky Askren, Sponge Saffiedine and Woodley. Gives me a little bit of hope he can pull off what he almost did against Fitch.
