I finally got a copy of this album and it is awesome. Sonny Smith from Sonny and the Sunsets Fruitvale album is a concept album about living in Oakland. It reminds me kind of like a west coast Lou Reed if he was an alt-folk musician and had a more positive outlook on life. The songs are full of fly on the wall observations and tongue in cheek lyrics with plenty of Sonny Smith weirdness.

I always meant to post this Mountain Goats whenever you brought him up but either forgot or was too lazy.

The Mountain Goats - The Coroner's Gambit

This is easily my favorite Mountain Goats album. This album was done when he was still recording music on his boom box but some of the songs start to incorporate more instruments than just guitar. Its a great middle ground between his lo-fi stuff and his later full production work.
