You cant look at it like that though. You cant start rebuilding in 1 year with no money. Everything theyre doing now is plans for the future, and as much as I dont like it, are smart moves, IMO...The more I think about it the more I think the A's did the right thing honestly, the upside to Gio, and especially Cahill werent as high as they seemed...They traded for young talent and prospects that are going to take a couple seasons to shake out. Dont worry about attendance, especially for a team designed not to win in a stadium they essentially dont want you to go to anymore...And all that shit aside the A's NEVER sell out, there were games home games in 1990 they didnt sell 5000 tickets, there are stories about mid-season 1974, after winning 2 WS in a row that 500 people didnt show up...Look at it like this: Once the stadium is built, in either Oakland or SJ or wherever, they will have some of the top prospects with 3 seasons experience, Jemile Weeks with even more, their minor league prospects will be ready, and money coming in from said stadium. They stand the chance to be in a very good position once this is all figured out. Its just the waiting and bullshit in the meantime that sucks, lol.

Athletics Could Soon Receive Permission For Move
The Athletics will be granted permission to move to San Jose by February, top Major League sources tell Bob Nightengale of USA Today (via Twitter). A's GM Billy Beane declined comment on the report according to Joe Stiglich of the Bay Area News Group (via Twitter). However, Nightengale tweets that the A's have received private assurances from MLB about the impending approval but cannot speak about it publicly.

The A's have been said to be basing their spending decisions on the fate of the new stadium. Getting a new ballpark would signal the club to go into an all-out rebuilding mode in order to field a competitive team for the new space. If the A's didn't feel that they could get the new stadium that they seek, they likely would have increased spending in the short-term in order to make the franchise more attractive to a prospective owner.

Yesterday, Beane admitted that the club's recent moves were made with an eye on a brand new ballpark being in their future. The club's recent trades involving Trevor Cahill and Gio Gonzalez give the A's a fresh stock of prospects that should be able to help them win a few years down the road.

The Athletics will have to pay the Giants for territorial rights if they move to San Jose, but that amount has yet to be determined, Nightengale tweets.

there were some idiots on 95.7 saying that real A's fans shouldnt follow the team to San Jose. Just wanted to see what yall thought about that

I heard them saying something about that the other day. How "I'd be fed up" and "Id give up" and its time to start looking for a new team, at least until theyre good again. Fuck that, if youre a real fan, youre a fan for life.

And also what can you possibly do to keep the team in Oakland? Its billionares making billionare decisions on how to make even more billions, money is whats moving the team. Unless your a fan thats independently wealthy and feel like financing a $250 million stadium on your private property in Oakland, its kinda out of our hands...

aye that shit was ridiculous. Talk about ban wagon fans, sf got over a million in 2010. I remember askin numerous girls if they wanted to grab some bleacher seats and get fucked up at the a's game, and most of em were all like fuck baseball shits gay, then buster posey sparks the giants season halfway through, they make it to the playofs and same bitches be wearing giants hats and shirts and were actin like "giants fans" since the dawn of time.

The A's have traded closer Andrew Bailey to the Red Sox, according to a report from ESPN's Buster Olney. In addition to Bailey, outfielder Ryan Sweeney is headed for Boston.

Oakland will get outfielder Josh Reddick, 20-year-old third baseman Miles Head and and Raul Alcantera, a 19-year-old pitcher.

Reddick posted a .280 batting average in 87 games for Boston in 2011. He had 18 doubles and seven homers.

Reddick was drafted by Boston in the 17th round of the 2006 MLB Draft. He made his big-league debut on July 31, 2009.

Reddick started 2011 in Triple-A Pawtucket, but was recalled in May 26, 2011 after Darnell McDonald was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left quad. The 24-year-old was able to stay in the majors after the Red Sox designated Cameron for assignment on June 29, 2011.

Bailey, 27, is the third member of their pitching staff to depart via trade this offseason. Earlier this month, Oakland parted ways with Trevor Cahill and Gio Gonzalez as part of a cost-cutting effort.

Bailey missed two months of the 2011 season wtih a forearm strain and elbow inflammation but the 2009 AL Rookie of the Year and two-time All-Star still finished with 24 saves, including converting his final 15 opportunities.

Bailey is from New Jersey but spends his offseasons in New England. He lives outside of New Haven, Conn., where his wife grew up.

He has 75 saves and a 2.07 ERA over the past three seasons. He is scheduled to earn $465,000 this year.
