Trick r Treat

I love this movie. Produced by Bryan Singer. Written and directed by Michael Dougherty. Just about never saw the light of day, let alone a Straight-to-DVD release, but an excellent film overall. There are some things done in this movie that are cinematically brilliant, and at the same time there are things done in this movie that appear a little cheap because of the budget restrictions and setbacks the filming had. This one stays on my Instant Queue on Netflix all the time.

9/10

I'm kinda sick of all these Vampire movies. That Twilight shit and all those Vampire series on TV just suck ass. Found this Stake Land DVD and thought I'd give it a try anyway cause it looked different. Had the DVD for a couple weeks till I finally popped the movie in one night when I couldn't sleep. It surprised me. It was kind of original and different. Reminded me more of a Zombie movie, as the vampires are not the smart and handsome high school kids but more like fast zombies just out to kill...

It's a very well made B-Movie that (to me) is better than similar movies like I Am Legend. Kind of think The Road with Vampires.

America is a lost nation. When an epidemic of vampirism strikes, humans find themselves on the run from vicious, feral beasts. Cities are tombs and survivors cling together in rural pockets, fearful of nightfall. When his family is slaughtered, young Martin ("Gossip Girl's" Connor Paolo) is taken under the wing of a grizzled, wayward hunter (Nick Damici) whose new prey is the Undead.

Simply known as Mister, the vampire stalker takes Martin on a journey through the locked-down towns of America's heartland, searching for a better place while taking down any bloodsuckers that cross their path. Along the way they recruit fellow travellers, including a nun (Kelly McGillis) who is caught in a crisis of faith when her followers turn into ravenous beasts. This ragtag family unit cautiously moves north, avoiding major thoroughfares that have been seized by The Brethren, a fundamentalist militia headed by Jebedia Loven (Michael Cerveris) that interprets the plague as the Lord's work.

Director Jim Mickle first grabbed the attention of horror film fans with his zombie-rat thriller Mulberry Street, in which Damici also starred and served as co-writer. They have teamed up again to deliver an even darker and bloodier shocker. Drawing on the post-apocalyptic frenzy described by Richard Matheson (author of the novel I Am Legend) and George Romero, STAKE LAND is a road movie with fangs and a phantasmagorical journey.

Also starring horror movie icon Danielle Harris and produced by indie horror director Larry Fessenden (THE LAST WINTER). -- (C) IFC Films
Can recommend it to anybody that likes horror, zombie, post-apocalyptic, or vampire movies...

Horrible Bosses

I was expecting a lot more from this movie. Like to laugh. I cracked a smile and chuckled a few times, but I was expecting some serious laughter. The funniest part of the movie was the outtakes at the end and even those weren’t very good by most standards. I think the biggest problem was I saw all the funniest parts in commercials and previews so they did nothing for me in the movie. The story also was a let down. I felt they had so much potential with this concept that never got developed. Good cast that was available to do much more. 2 out of 5

Red State

This was always billed, as far as my understanding of the movie, as a horror movie. Not horror like exorcist or Friday the 13th, but Hostel or Devils Rejects. Instead this had to have been almost PG-13. Another one with potential that just went wrong somewhere. Too long was how I felt though most of the movie. Especially the preacher’s preaching. That shit went on way too long. Best scene was at the end with John Goodman and the ATF review board. 2.25 out of 5

The Man Who Wasn't There

This movie just reinforces my general dislike for Coen Brothers films. Though it is definitely in the better half. Probably fourth after Miller’s Crossing, Raising Arizona, and Big Lebowski. Visually it was pretty good and hit the noir feel pretty well, but I felt all the performances were flat and emotionless. I’m sure that was the feeling they were going for, but it did not appeal to me. That works for the main character in noir, but not for everyone. This felt too long and every time I hoped it was over it kept going. 2.5 out of 5

Watching this right now before I go out tonight. Just when I thought I'd given up on vampire films this one caught me by surprise. Really interesting so far, obviously you could say its lacking originality a little but i'm a sucka for post apocalyptic plot locations. Think Book of Eli meets Walking Dead, in a good way though.

Bellflower follows two friends as they venture out into the world to begin their adult lives. Literally all their free time is spent building flame-throwers and weapons of mass destruction in hopes that a global apocalypse will occur and clear the runway for their imaginary gang "Mother Medusa". While waiting for the world to end, their call to excitement comes unexpectedly when one of them meets a charismatic young woman and falls hard in love. Quickly integrated into a new group of friends, they set off on a journey of betrayal, love, hate, infidelity and extreme violence more devastating and fiery than any of their apocalyptic fantasies

Super explosive and twisted movie, well made. The hipsters acting in it could have been a little more believable at times but I loved it overall. It's a good example of what happens when masculanity, jealousy, and one upping each other is taken too far. fyi the trailers don't do it justice at all.

Based on the true story and a bestselling novel, this powerful epic captures the incredible journey of German soldier Clemens Forell in his dramatic escape from a Siberian labor camp after World War II. Through bitter cold winters, desolate landscapes, and life threatening adventures, Forell -- determined to be reunited with his beloved family -- makes his way, step by step, day by day, towards freedom. 8,000 miles and three endless years of uncertainty later, he is finally about to reach his destination... An edge of your seat drama that celebrates the power of the human spirit and the force of will, when inspired and empowered, by love.
Siberia is crazy. That's what first got my attention. This movie isn't a war movie but a focused view of the devotion and strength of one man to return to his family. I don't know much German Cinema yet but this one got my attention. Worth the watch. Sorry for the lazy reviews don't have much time right now.
