lol I was bored at work last week and The Ring magazine asked fans to send their thoughts of pac-jmm so I sent them an email. I got an email this morning from michael rosenthal of The Ring saying their going to use me for the next Ring Magazine addition. Kinda cool story, breh...

This is what I sent:


I thought it was a great fight which was extremely close just like the prior two. Honestly, it could have gone either way it was so close. Marquez knows how to fight Pacquiao like no other; he went 24 very evenly matched rounds going into the third fight.

Now it appears there are a lot of people screaming robbery. I don't think this was a robbery at all, it was very similar to the second fight - very evenly matched with a lot of difficult rounds to score, minus the knockdown. Everyone already knows judges will typically in close rounds score it for the guy who's busier and lands more, and that's the way I scored it too although a draw would have been just as fine or even a one point victory for Marquez. I had Pacquiao winning by one round.

Closes fights like this you can't call robberies. A robbery is Lara vs Paul Williams or Chavez vs Whitaker. This was yet another razor thin fight just like the past two, which goes to show just how evenly matched Pacquiao & JMM are.

And I'd like people to finally give Marquez the respect he deserves, he's an all time great fighter, period. For whatever reasons, people simply assumed Pacquiao would blow Marquez away, even though he has been the toughest opponent for Pacquiao in a number of years, not to mention he’s never been stopped in his career.

Bradley is not boring at all, hes a beast in the ring. he breaks you down, he comes to fight! Bradley and Paris should be action, I dont think Paris is ready for this level just yet, glad hes getting some shine tho

you can't honestly say bradley vs casamayor was entertaining. Or Bradley vs Alexander. Or Bradley vs Abregu. Etc. The best fight I recall Bradley in was with Kendall Holt, and that was because Bradley got knocked down three times.

Now I do agree he's a beast though at what he does, he's a great fighter. I don't think anyone can deny that. He just needs to learn how to truly punch and put some power into his shots. And his style of fighting, I just don't think MOST fans (not all) really enjoy watching him. Maybe it will take the right opponent, idk.

Ward: I'm not worried about Froch targeting my cut; Fight Camp 360° airs on November

World Boxing Association (WBA) super middleweight champ Andre Ward (24-0, 13 KOs), trainer Virgil Hunter, and promoter Dan Goossen hosted members of the media at King's Gym in Oakland, CA on Friday to discuss how his training camp has been going in preparation for his upcoming SHOWTIME Super Six World Boxing Classic Final and world championship unification bout against World Boxing Council (WBC) champion Carl Froch (28-1, 20 KOs).

Many were interested in how Andre was doing after the accidental cut he sustained in training camp that forced the postponement of the original October 29 meeting.

"(Froch) targeting the cut is a non-issue for us. It's not something we talk about. Its not something we think about. We need to go in there and do what we've got to do and execute our game plan."

"As the opponent, he is supposed to try to target the cut, but I think he'll get himself into trouble if he tries to focus too hard on trying to open up an old cut.

"He's been cut before too, like when he fought Pascal, and he puffs up and bleeds, so we've got a lot of spots we're gonna be targeting too."

Andre didn't shy away from discussing the game plan he had in store for his Dec. 17 opponent. "I try not to fight with any one style. At this level, eventually enough people are going to watch tape of you, and they'll take advantage of a one dimensional fighter."

"These are the type of fights that you need to win, and win convincingly in order to cross over to the higher levels. This is huge in terms of stakes that are on the line, but we train hard, as we do for every fight. This one is no different

De La Hoya: If Arum wasn’t around, I’d make Mayweather-Pacquiao, Chavez-Martinez

By Chris Williams: Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions believes that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is getting in the way of some important fights that could and should be made, such as Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr., Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Sergio Martinez and Brandon Rios vs. Marcos Maidana.

De La Hoya said this on his twitter: “Don’t worry people once Arum is not promoting anymore, I will make sure the sport I clearly believe and love will resurge to its glory days. If it was up to me and Bob Arum wasn’t around, Golden Boy [Promotions] would do Pac vs. Mayweather, Chavez Jr. vs. Martinez, Brandon Rios vs. Maidana.”

De La Hoya clearly thinks Arum is getting in the way of these important fights from being made. I’m not really aware of Arum stopping the Maidana vs. Rios fight from happening, but he sure hasn’t seemed eager to put Chavez Jr. in with Martinez. That’s pretty clear. As far as the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight, I also think Arum could have made that fight happen a long time ago if he had pressured Pacquiao into accepting a shorter cut-off date for the blood testing for performance enhancing drugs during the first failed negotiations with Mayweather a year ago.

And now recently, Arum is talking about putting Pacquiao in with Juan Manuel Marquez for a fourth fight between the two fighters rather than matching Pacquiao up immediately with Mayweather in February or May of 2012. Some boxing fans think that Arum is getting cold feet about matching his cash cow Pacquiao up with Mayweather for fear that Pacquiao will get soundly beaten and his future paydays going downwards after that.

Arum, 80, is definitely getting up there in age. However, it’s unclear whether any of those fights would get made even if Arum weren’t around anymore. I can see Pacquiao still not facing Mayweather and Chavez Jr. not being put in with Martinez even if Arum wasn’t in the equation any longer. I think Top Rank won’t be eager to make those fights happen any time soon even without Arum. Why should they? Pacquiao is making big money facing lesser guys and doesn’t really need to fight Mayweather and likely take a beating. If he can get $20 million every time out no matter who he fights, it probably doesn’t make sense to have him fight Mayweather and lose. The same goes for Chavez Jr. against Martinez. Chavez Jr. isn’t making the same kind of huge money that Pacquiao is, but if they keep matching him against guys that Chavez Jr. can actually beat, then the boxing public may be willing to purchase his fights on pay per view in droves. The casual boxing fans don’t follow the sport as closely as the hardcore fans and they could buy into Chavez Jr. being the best fighter in the middleweight division eventually as long as Chavez Jr. is kept away from some of the best fighters in the middleweight division that would likely beat him.

By the same token, De La Hoya hasn’t seemed eager to put one of his biggest names, IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan back in with two fighters he struggled against in the past Breidis Prescott and Marcos Maidana. As such, you can say De La Hoya also protects his fighters from risky fights.

Haye back in training, fight with Vitali could be announced in December

By William Mackay: Former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) is reportedly back in training for a fight against WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (43-2, 40 KO’s) in March 2012. According to new from the telegraph.co.uk, the Haye-Klitschko fight could officially be announced next month in December in a fight that possibly will take place in Dusseldorf, Germany.

This is a fight that the 40-year-old Vitali wants, as he wants to improve upon the performance made by his younger brother IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in his lopsided 12 round decision win over Haye last July. Vitali wants to shut Haye up by knocking him out and sending him into a permanent retirement. But at the same time, Vitali obviously wants to get the big payday that would go with a Haye fight.

Despite being one of the two best fighters in the heavyweight division, a big mega fight has eluded Vitali during this time. The closest thing he’s come to getting a mega fight was his bout recently against former light heavyweight/cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek in Poland. That wasn’t much of a fight with Vitali easily beating Adamek in a 10th round TKO.

Haye hung up the gloves after turning 31 last month but few people saw it as a permanent thing. It was more of a rest break for Haye, who after getting a big money fight against Wladimir, no longer seems interested in facing anyone other than a Klitschko. Unfortunately, Haye did a really poor job against Wladimir by fighting a safety first fight in surviving 12 rounds without taking chances. For this reason he’s going to have to work doubly hard to promote the Vitali-Haye fight by giving a lot of interviews and saying things that will convince fans that he’ll be able to do better against Vitali compared to how he fought against Wladimir.

In fairness to Haye, he could give Vitali problems with his speed. Vitali is more of a stationary fighter compared to Wladimir and is someone that Haye would have a better chance against. Wladimir was much too athletic and fast on his feet to be troubled by Haye’s circling and in and out attacks. But Vitali could struggle if he’s not quick enough to adjust to Haye’s speed

that fight was very entertaining to me, were just gonna have to agree to disagree on that subject. Bradley is not boring by a long shot, boxing is not all about power. Bradley has all the tools in toolbox. stop the hate

that's what's missing these days - good inside fighters (for the most part). There are some, but more and more guys just stick on the outside and don't do shit on the inside. I blame the crappy amateur system which teaches kids to "score points" rather than inflict damage. They need to go back to the oldschool system of just boxing. Take the head gear off, bring back judges (instead of guys "counting" landed shots) and that will make a lot of young guys more ready for the pro's.

Pacquiao says he wants Mayweather bout now – Boxing News

By Chris Williams: WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao reportedly now wants to fight WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. according to fighthype.com. Michael Koncz, the adviser to Pacquiao, says Pacquiao told him he wants the Mayweather fight now.

This is nice to know but still meaningless until Pacquiao sits down and convinces his promoter Bob Arum that it’s the right move. Arum has already let his feelings known about whom he wants Pacquiao to fight next and it’s not Mayweather.

Arum wants Pacquiao to fight Juan Manuel Marquez for a fourth time in early 2012, and then after that Mayweather. However, Pacquiao has other ideas. Why Pacquiao now wants the Mayweather fight is debatable. My guess is Pacquiao doesn’t want any more of Marquez after winning a fight that pretty much the entire boxing world thinks he should have lost.

By getting back in the ring again with Marquez so soon, Pacquiao could end up not getting the nod this time by the judges. And that would ruin the big money fight against Mayweather. Instead of Pacquiao getting the nice cash payday, it would be Marquez who would be facing Mayweather for a second time. Pacquiao doesn’t need to fight Marquez ever again.

Pacquiao and his loyal followers can point to the judges’ decision while ignoring the rest of the world who saw it differently from the three judges. Pacquiao got his win and can move on. Sure, he’s now tainted because of the controversial win, but there is enough boxing fans who want to see him fight Mayweather that it really won’t matter.

However, what we saw revealed in the Marquez fight in terms of numerous flaws in Pacquiao’s game will be highlighted even more by Mayweather. It’s going to be an embarrassing night for Pacquiao when he faces Mayweather. Think of Pacquiao like a bald tire trying o drive up an icy hill in the snow. He’s just not equipped to face a guy like Mayweather, and it’s going to be apparent once the fight gets underway.

Pacquiao failed the preliminary fight against Marquez, and really should be weeded out rather than moving forward. But let him go ahead and fight Mayweather. It’s going to be Pacquiao’s mistake. Instead of realizing that he doesn’t have the skills needed to fight Mayweather, he’s going to go ahead and take the fight anyway and end up getting whipped. I think Pacquiao needs to follow the advice of his close friend Amir Khan by retiring from the sport, because he doesn’t have it anymore from what I can see. The legs are gone, and without the ability to move like he used to, Pacquiao is going to be like a wounded duck against Mayweather. He got old fast.

Roach wants Chavez Jr. vs. Saul Alvarez at 160 rather than 156

By Eric Thomas: If trainer Freddie Roach had his way the prospective mega fight between WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez will take place at the full middleweight limit of 160 pounds rather than 156 pounds, which would accommodate the smaller Alvarez.

Roach, who trains Chavez Jr., is reportedly against a catch weight for this fight despite his most famous fighter Manny Pacquiao having fought at catch weights a number of times. I guess its good enough for Pacquiao but not good enough for the smaller Alvarez. In this case, the 5’9” Alvarez really needs a catch weight because he only recently moved up to junior middleweight and will be giving away a lot of size against the 6’0” Chavez Jr., who looked huge in his last fight against Peter Manfredo Jr. last weekend.

If both Chavez Jr. and Alvarez were roughly the same size by fight time, this would be a fair fight. But if Chavez Jr. scales in at 180 lbs the night of the fight after rehydrating, it would give Chavez Jr. a tremendous advantage.

Roach may not like it but he’s going to have to accept the 156 pound catch weight because Alvarez’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya has already said he won’t make the Alvarez-Chavez Jr. fight unless it’s at 156. Roach obviously wants Chavez Jr. to have a huge advantage in this fight but it’s not going to happen.

It’s unclear how much longer Chavez Jr. will be able to continue to make the 160 pound middleweight limit because he’s getting bigger and bigger. At some point, he’s going to get diminishing returns and will be too weakened to continue fighting at 160. He’s only 25-years-old and fighters tend to start battling weight problems in their late 20s. At best, I see Chavez Jr. staying at middleweight for the next two, possibly three years. But after that, he’ll have to move up to super middleweight where there really won’t be a place for him there. The division is too good and Chavez Jr. will have to skip that division to try and find success at the weak light heavyweight division.
