I had a tough time getting into the first two, beat a couple levels and quit. Not very good at first person games.

The setting on this one looks sick

here are a lot of PlayStation 3 exclusives coming out in 2011, and one of those titles that has gamers extremely interested is Resistance 3. While rumors are swirling about what the Resistance 3 trailer or reveal at the upcoming Spike Videogame Awards will be, the US PlayStation Blog has given us new information on Insomniac's upcoming shooter in the here-and-now.

The blog verifies a lot of information that gamers already knew, or theorized about. For instance, Joseph Capelli is indeed Resistance 3's main character. The blog post (written by Marcus Smith of Insomniac) reveals that Capelli, discharged from service since the events of Resistance 2, was hiding out with his wife Susan and son Jack in the middle of the United States, at a location called Haven, Oklahoma. The Chimera have won the worldwide conflict decisively, and Capelli's journey across the United States towards New York City in Resistance 3 is a journey taken in order to try to take one last stand against complete Chimera domination. Any remaining vestiges of humanity are being systematically eliminated by what Smith coins as "roving death squads and drones," and from the images in the story, hope seems to be non-existent.

It's the last paragraph in the blog post that's most interesting, however, as it confirms or freshly reveals actual gameplay aspects of Resistance 3 that fans can now eagerly anticipate. Smith confirms that the weapon wheel is making its return to the series, which will allow Capelli to access any weapon in his arsenal. Those weapons will now also be upgradeable. In terms of co-op, Smith states that the single-player campaign will indeed support two-player co-op, and that it can be played locally via split-screen, or online. And perhaps most tantalizingly of all, Smith states that Resistance 3's multiplayer will be "much more focused" as well as "progression-based" and promises new details as the game inches closer to the fall of 2011, when the game is set to be released to the masses.

Resistance 3 fan contest

Get your likeness in the game, play it before it comes out and meet the Insomniac Games team.

Starting on March 11th, gamers can enter to win a once in a lifetime chance to appear in Resistance 3. Thankfully, you won’t actually have to battle against the Chimera but your likeness can appear in the upcoming PS3 exclusive. The grand prize winner will also get a chance to meet the Insomniac Games development team and get to play it before its released in September.

In order to win fans must visit http://us.playstation.com/resistance3getinthegame and upload a photo of themselves in the middle of a Resistance style battle (or looking like they have just survived one). Of course the more props they use the better.

Good luck.

Sony Introduces 'PSN Pass' Program
Resistance 3 requires input code to access online features.

Yesterday, German website Konsolentreff published early photos of the Resistance 3 PS3 bundle box showing a new logo that says "PSN Pass."

The message read: "Network features only available in countries that have PlayStation Store." However, no other details were provided.

SCEA responded to requests for comment this morning to clarify, saying this program requires customers to input a one-time use code to access a game's online capabilities, similar to EA's Online Pass introduced last year.

"We are always evaluating new programs for our online offering, and starting with Resistance 3 this September, we will be instituting a network pass program for PS3 games with online capabilities," the spokesperson said. "This program will be game-specific. Games that are a part of this program will include a single-use registration code that grants the account holder redeeming the code full online access for that title.

"This is an important initiative as it allows us to accelerate our commitment to enhancing premium online services across our first party game portfolio."

If you don't have a code to input, say if you purchase the game used, you'll have to buy one through the Store. It's unclear how much one of these PSN Pass codes will cost, however.

Sony said it will announce additional details at a later date

If I wasn't a busy person I would try to organize a movement that would stop this type of shit. What if I don't want to play online or multiplayer? Why should I have to pay $65 for features I don't want or won't use? So the other guy gets the option but I don't? Fuck, I'm buying used for now on. I'm not even going to get Deus EX, Gears or ME3 new now. Fuck this shit.

Game Informer gave it a 7.

GameInformer said:
Insomniac approached Resistance 3 with no lack of ambition, expanding to a three-year development cycle in an effort to make this its biggest title yet. The team succeeds in some ways, as the various hand-written notes and journals you’ll find on your trek to New York City help to flesh out the story. However, more effort seems to have been put into minutia than the gameplay itself. With no reason to connect with these characters and little in the way of action to separate itself from the packed FPS crowd, Resistance 3 makes it clear that the series doesn’t belong amongst the triple-A competition in the genre.
Ouch @ the bold statement.

Obviously I can't judge Resistance 3 on R:FoM and R2's merits, but I felt both of those games were pretty average and can't compete with Halo, Call of Duty or Killzone.
