I woulda loved Weaver, but Norris is good at what he does. We need a 3rd down back also on offense. and an RT.

Defense we need a Free Safety, true NT, and DE

I really hope they don't sign him. Don't get me wrong, kurt is a good QB, BUT he always had good WR's. Holt and Bruce, while Kurt was in St.Louis, are better WR's than anyone we have had on the roster since T.O. Same shit in Arizona, either Fitz or Boldin alone, are better WR's than all our WR's combined. If we sign Kurt, we don't have one play maker at wideout

vernon has some big play potential, and Gore out the back field...but fuck, I think it would be a waste of money signing Kurt.

i honestly don't know who i want at qb. hill is solid, i don't mind having him as the started but warner is also a HOF. i'm ok with any of the two starting. like stated above, it would have been great to see martz/warner/bruce reunited

I think it's strange that Warner would come to the niners especially after they let go of Martz. If they kept Martz, it might have more sense with because of the conection. What seemed weird to me is the physical part. Do FA who come to 'talk' to a team usually take physical?

I agree they need an improvement in WR. I think battle is as good as gone (no speed but a lot of heart) and an improvement with Jason Hill and Josh Morgan would help a lot.

According to NFL Network, the Arizona Cardinals, clearly worried by free agent quarterback Kurt Warner's trip to San Francisco, have increased their offer to $23 million over two years. This is an increase of $3 million compared to their original offer, but still shy of agent Mark Bartelstein's contract demands.

Warner did leave the 49ers' Santa Clara headquarters without a contract. Rotoworld.com speculates that whatever the 49ers offered Warner, clearly did not "blow him out of the water" and feels that he will resign with the Cardinals.

Mark Bartelstein is reportedly seeking around $29 million. Warner and his wife Brenda left the Bay Area tonight and are headed home to Arizona.

As expected, Kurt Warner has taken the 49ers' offer back to Arizona.
Warner's side has made a counter-offer to the Cardinals of two years, $23 million with $12 million guaranteed. In addition, Warner will give the Cardinals a $1 million discount if they get a long-term agreement in place with Anquan Boldin. (Those numbers are also being reported by several outlets, including ESPN and the Arizona Republic.)

Sources say the 49ers offered more money than what Warner is willing to take with the Cardinals. (It is not known exactly what the 49ers offered.)

Warner is making a concession on his salary, so it's hard to imagine the Cardinals would not meet him at his demand. Also, Warner's stance on Boldin puts even more pressure on the Cardinals to get this thing done.
This might not be such a slam dunk for the Cardinals, after all.
The 49ers offered more money than the two-year, $23 million counter-proposal Warner's agent, Mark Bartelstein, took back to the Cardinals. Bartelstein says the deal contains $12 million in guarantees.

However, Kent Somers, a well-respected reporter who covers the Cardinals for the Arizona Republic, sheds more light on the deal. He cites a source who says Bartelstein was not counting the $7 million salary in the first year of the deal as guaranteed. Therefore, the Cardinals are being asked to guarantee $19 million on the two-year deal.

It's doubtful the Cardinals will agree to that proposal.

--To his credit, Shaun Hill said he is not getting caught up in all the talk about Warner. He said he is not sensitive to the fact the 49ers are pursuing another quarterback. He told me he can't control what's happening, so there's no use in letting it bother him. Coach Mike Singletary has stated repeatedly this offseason that he expects Hill and Alex Smith to take part in an offseason quarterback competition.

--Redskins free-agent defensive end Demetric Evans is currently visiting the 49ers' facility. It's a good bet that he will sign a deal with the club, perhaps as early as this afternoon.

--The 49ers appear to have some interest in signing free-agent Jason Taylor, whom the Redskins released last week. Taylor declined to agree to take part in the Redskins' offseason program because he wanted to spend more time with his family. There is also some talk that Taylor might retire. Taylor will be 35 when the season begins. He has 12 years of NFL experience. He did not miss a game for eight consecutive seasons before last season, when he played 13 games. His 3.5 sacks with the Redskins was the second-fewest for a season in his career.

--Contrary to some reports, the 49ers do not appear to be pursuing defensive end Marques Douglas, who did a good job with the team in his three seasons with the 49ers. The 49ers did not make a push to re-sign Douglas when he hit the free-agent market at the end of last season. The Ravens recently released Douglas after one season.

Former Kansas City quarterback Damon Huard is headed to San Francisco. The Chiefs had no plans of bringing back Huard, who was a starter at times the past few seasons.

reports are 49ers are supposed to sign Huard. not bad a veteran backup.

The 49ers envision safety Mark Roman as a backup in 2009, so they have given him permission to seek a trade, his agent confirmed.

"That's why coach (Mike) Singletary is going to be such a great coach," said agent Albert Elias, who represents Roman. "He is so honest with his players, and that's all Mark could ask for. Coach Singletary told him he thought his role was going to be as a safety on nickel and dime situations. So he'd play all third downs, but he probably wouldn't be a starter."

The nugget was first reported by The Sporting News.

The 49ers said they were not going to release Roman, but they extended the courtesy of allowing him to seek a trade, Elias said. Roman is in the final year of his contract and is scheduled to earn $900,000 in base salary in 2009.

The 49ers have penciled in Dashon Goldson to be the starting free safety next season. Roman, a nine-year veteran, has started 48 consecutive games since arriving with the 49ers as a free agent in the summer of 2006.

"Mark wants to stay in San Francisco, but he also wants to be a starter," Elias said. "If he has to be in a limited role, he'll do that. We appreciate the 49ers giving Mark an opportunity to find a starting job."

The 49ers gave Roman's agent permission Tuesday to seek a trade. The process has just started. If he can't find a trade, Roman is expected to return to the 49ers as a backup.
