A rise-and-grind emcee with a easygoing drawl and a devoted fanbase, Scotty ATL is effortlessly relatable. His buzz has been picking up with the release of his new strain of Marijuana called Cloud IX which is available IX in Denver, CO. Scotty returns with the video for “Tom Sawya,“ a 808 bass heavy, Southern-fried, lyrical banger. The song’s title comes from a line that Scotty spits during the first verse: “Bitches wanna bury my fins, I’m Tom Sawya.” In the rugged video, directed by Stack Moses / CMK Productions, the Cool Club CEO walks through an abandoned building looking for his hatahs that are nowhere to be found. Produced by 8 Track, “Tom Sawya” is one of the most talked about songs off of Scotty’s project #DailyBread.
Explains Scotty ATL: “This is one of the fan favorites off of Daily Bread. The lyrics is what got people on this one. I wrote this song at 5am in Houston, TX the night after thanksgiving while sitting outside of my hotel in the Surbanban. I wanted to show people that the south still got sumn to say, we not just about trap rap but we also pushing the culture and we got rap skills too. In the song I ask the question where my hatahs go, as you can see I’m in an abandoned building and nobody is around, kinda answering the question visually to myself. Also at the end the airplane flying over my head represents where I feel like my career is going in 2017, sky high!”
Scotty also explained why he choose the song for the video: “Everybody likes this song, the hook has that Outkast Elevators vibe to it, which makes you wanna sing along. Because so many people tell me how its one of there favorite songs off the project I had to shoot the visual.”
“Tom Sawya” is the fifth visual to emerge from Daily Bread, following his last visual for “Stupid Rich,” October’s candy-colored, Karen Civil-premiered “So High”, and September’s Kissie Lee-featuring highlight “Kno That U Will.” Prior to the album’s release, The FADER premiered the sorrowful, Ty Dolla $ign-assisted “Bye Bye,” in which Scotty mourns fallen friends, including four that he lost in a period of four weeks in March 2016 while he was on tour with B.o.B. Informed by grief and great loss, including a stretch in March when Scotty lost four close friends in four weeks, Daily Bread follows in a noble tradition of rap classics like UGK’s Ridin Dirty and songs like Pete Rock & CL Smooth’s “T.R.O.Y.” or 2Pac’s “Keep Ya Head Up,” exploring the excesses and the consequences of a rapper’s life. Daily Bread is the result of a career’s worth of grinding, and it stands as one of the rapper’s most accomplished efforts.
Scotty also recently released his own strain of Marijuana called #CloudIX which is available right now for purchase in Denver, CO at The Dab Co (By Next Harvest). Scotty also sells gold grills (for Killer Mike, Trouble, Rich Homie, K Camp & More) in Atlanta, Atown Grillz.
