UPDATE: Lil Wayne is alive and well, despite reports of gunfire at his Miami-area home on Wednesday.
Miami Beach Police now say the scene outside his home is cleared and they are breaking down the police perimeter in a case that turned out to be a prank.
The rapper was not at home and is fine, according to his tweet and tweets from his record label.
Police say it was a hoax but the concern was real after police received a call about shots being fired and multiple victims.
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) — A phone call made to the Miami Beach Police Department indicated a shooting occurred at Lil Wayne’s house in Miami Beach, Wednesday afternoon. It has been confirmed that the rapper is OK and was not at home of the time of the incident.
Miami Beach Police set up a perimeter around the house, located at 94 Lagorce Circle, after receiving a non-emergency call from someone not on the scene indicating shots were fired. According to police, the caller also indicated four people may be injured. The identity of the caller is still unknown.
Lil Wayne’s record label, Young Money Entertainment, confirmed through a tweet that Lil’ Wayne is OK and he was not home at the time of the incident. “Wayne is okay. Wasn’t home during alleged events,” said @YoungMoneySite.
SWAT team officials are on the scene and police said no entry to the home has been made yet and they have been unable to contact anyone inside the home.
A neighbor of the rapper’s, Kelly Urban, described the scene outside of his home. “This afternoon, I had an app on my telephone that told me four shots were fired … I’m aware [Lil’ Wayne lives here] … It’s been really quiet for the most part until most recently,” he said.
It is still unclear if anyone was in fact injured in this alleged shooting.
Saturday, police were also called to the rappers home after a suspicious person was lurking around the property at around 3 a.m. Police ultimately determined no crime was committed and the man was free to go.
