The fight is just two months away, so it’s time for Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao to get back to work.
Mayweather-Pacquiao is set for May 2 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas after being announced Feb. 20, and it’s expected to be the richest fight in boxing history.
Many details — such as pay-per-view price, undercard fights, ticket details and a prefight press conference date — have yet to be announced, but both fighters plan to begin official training camp today.
For Mayweather, that means endless hours over the next eight weeks at the Mayweather Boxing Club, his gym just minutes from the Las Vegas strip. He hasn’t fought since beating Marcos Maidana for the second time in September.
Pacquiao arrived in Los Angeles on Sunday and will train at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Club. He was last seen in the ring in Macau, knocking Chris Algieri down six times during a dominant November win.
Floyd Mayweather Sr. already has devised a plan for his son to knock Pacquiao out.
“If you’ve ever seen Pacquiao fight, against everybody, you never see nobody going to his body — you never see nobody going to his body,” Mayweather Sr. told MLive.com. “So my thing would be is to tell Floyd, hit him with the straight right hand and left hook, and then go back to the body.
“A southpaw is definitely geared to be hit with right hands. I’m going to say that, along with the body work, it’s going to be a good right hand and a left hook that’s going to put him down.”
