A little over two years ago, the hip hop world was shocked when G. Dep confessed to a seventeen year old unsolved murder. Turning himself in, G. Dep stood trial and faced a fifteen-year sentence. As the trial began, G. Dep pled ‘Not Guilty,’ stating the confessed to the wrong crime and that his victim survived.
However, this did nothing to stop G. Dep from being sent to prison and served as another misfortune for New York hip hop. The darkest hour of the night comes right before day and this was the case for New York hip hop. In 2011, Jay-Z did Watch the Throne and then French Montana rose to success.
Two years behind bars, G. Dep talked to AllHipHop.com about Harlem hip hop. Now, the scene is led by A$AP Rocky. Currently, the internet is buzzing off the “Harlem shake” craze from over a decade ago. G. Dep spoke on this and the original “Harlem shake,” which he debuted in his “Special Delivery” music video.
