His rapping style an influence on Snoop Doggy Dogg (by Snoop’s own admission), Richie Rich first entered music in the late ’80s with the Oakland-based group 415. With D-Loc, DJ Darryl, and JED, Rich crafted a Bay Area classic called 41Fivin’, which sold well around the region and spawned a Richie Rich solo album, Don’t Do It. If your still not familiar with the Bay Area rap icon. Try and remember the raspy voice featured with Rick James, Tupac Shakur, E-40, Snoop Dog, B-Legit, Dru Down, Luniz, Shock G, Spice 1, Esera Tuaola, Scarface, Devin, and the boss of bosses, Too Short.
Richie Rich began his hip-hop career in the late 1980s. A self-proclaimed former D-Boy, Richard Serrell, professionally known as “Richie Rich”, began recording music as a means to momentarily escape the street life mentality of Oakland, CA. Feeling at home in the studio, Rich quickly began to understand that being an artist required more dedication than his “street schedule” would allow. And thus the Oakland based hip-hop group, 415, was spawned with Rich at the helm. Soon after, Richie Rich was introduced to the artist who became one of the world’s most beloved hip-hop artist, and one of his closest friends, Tupac Shukar. Eventually, Rich returned to the streets of Oakland as more than an artist. He had become a commodity that major record companies began fighting over. Richie Rich was courted by Priority Records and Universal Records, but landed on the doorstep and found a temporary home at Russell Simmons’ worldly acclaimed record label, Def Jam Records.
In present time the rap OG has been gearing up for the release of his next studio LP, entitled “Fed Case”. The album is expected for the fourth quarter December 30th, 2017 release.
