I'll go ahead and say this was worse than Malignaggi/Diaz. With that fight you could at least make an argument saying Malignaggi wasn't connecting with power (although it would be a bad argument). You can't make that same argument here .. Funeka clearly won, clearly busted him up and clearly hurt him .. and to make it worse it wasn't even in Guzman's hometown, it's in fucking Canada which none of them have any ties to.

I'm a big guzman fan but that was a terrible decision, he got his ass kicked. I swear 90% of the fights I've seen in Canada the scoring is always waaaaaay off.

Funeka is a beast though. I think guzman broke his nose in the 3rd or 4rth round, that ruined him, he was bleeding so badly plus like two other cuts. I was surprised the fight even continued. Also, how the fuck are you supposed to beat a guy so much bigger than you? By pressure. Guzman is not a pressure fighter at all, that's not his style. It was a bad match up for Guzman from the start.

And Bute was very impressive. I didn't expect a KO.

I don't really want to call it a bad decision. It was done on purpose for the obvious reasons. It's part of the sport and the business that goes along with it. I've accepted it a long time ago so it doesn't bother me too much anymore. It was 116-112 at best. Two judges gave 2 of the rounds to Guzman instead of Funeka. I think Jaun vs Paulie was worse, because they straight up gave Diaz the win.

It's too bad that it seems to be overcasting a great performance by Bute. We rarely get to see KO's by a body shot and that one was just perfect. Bute cocked back with it and unleashed to the body. It had bad intention all over it.

you're right about Bute. I never really cared for him that much but he was VERY impressive. I would have never thought Andrade would get KO'd. By anyone, let alone bute. That short left that first knocked him down was a thing of beauty.

Whoever wins the super six needs to fight bute. Although from what I read there is talk of a bute vs kelly pavlik fight. I would favor Bute after last nights performance - he's too slick for pavlik to hit and he has great power. That's trouble for pavlik if it goes down.

I agree. Bute's performance was one notch below Manny's win over Cotto...in regards of recent fights. He's just not a big name but he's getting there.

I'd personally like to see Bute vs Froch. Perfect match up for Bute and it will give him exposure to the European's. A fight with Pavlik would be nice as well. Pavlik's just been wierd lately, so I don't know.

I think that's just Bute's promoter talking about who they want to fight. Pavlik doesn't seem to be wanting to fight much at MW I doubt he takes someone like Bute at SMW. Bute and his promoter should be looking to fight the winner of Stieglitz/Miranda in a fight that Bute should take with no problem.

Even though I'm a guzman fan, this is good to hear - justice will be served to Funeka.

IBF To Review Tape of Ali Funeka-Joan Guzman

By Ronnie Nathanielsz

Faced with bitter criticism of the judges decision in the recent IBF lightweight title fight between South Africa’s Ali Funeka and Joan Guzman at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec, the IBF has decided to act.

Funeka was clearly robbed of the IBF lightweight title when two of the three judges mysteriously scored the fight a draw despite the fact that Funeka bloodied and battered Guzman for most of the twelve round bout..

It was Funeka’s second painful setback having lost a majority decision to Nate Campbell last February 14 when Campbell failed to make the weight and lost his title on the scales but prevailed in a controversial decision.

IBF Championship Committee chairman Lindsey Tucker, responding to a question from BoxingScene.com, insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports on what they planned to do in the face of the widespread criticism of the decision, Tucker said “We will review the tape and make a decision later this week.”

One of the judges who scored the Funeka-Guzman fight a draw was Benoit Roussel who had also scored the Campbell fight against Funeka, favoring Campbell by a score of 114-112. The other judge who scored the Funeka-Guzman fight a 114-114 draw was Alan Davis while the third judge, Joe Pasquale, had Funeka the winner 116-112.

The HBO television panel which included former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis, former boxing judge Harold Lederman and Max Kellerman were stunned by the decision just like a majority of boxing writers and fight fans as they had Funeka the winner by a 117-111 margin.

BoxingScene.com, insidesports.ph, Standard Today and Viva Sports had Funeka the winner 116-112.

Funeka used a stinging jab to rip into Guzman, blooding his nose and opening up a cut below his left eye in the fourth round due to an accidental head-butt and staggering him in the eighth but being unable to close it out as Guzman survived.

Funeka ripped into Guzman in rounds nine and ten and turned his face into a bloody and swollen mess and although Guzman who knew he was behind on points tried desperately to sc score a knockout in the final round Funeka held him off before finishing with a flurry.

BoxingScene.com’s Rick Reeno reported that promoter Lou DiBella who has no stake in either fighter is calling for a full investigation. He quoted DiBella as saying "T here should be a full investigation and background checks on those two judges. It was clearly a one-sided ass-whipping. If this is the best judging that boxing has to offer, then were are in real trouble. HBO should not buy the rematch. I don't want to see that fight again. Guzman got his ass kicked. Bring back Funeka like he's the winner."
