Toho Company has unleashed the first trailer to the live-action adaptation of GATCHAMAN. GATCHAMAN is best known in the United States in a re-edited version called BATTLE OF THE PLANETS.
The trailer features a glimpse of the five heroes followed by brief shots of them in their helmets, which do look like a fit for the 21st-Century. Ken the Eagle is played by Tori Matsuzaka (SAMURAI SENTAI SHIKENGER). Joe the Condor is played by Go Ayano (GANTZ: PERFECT ANSWER). Jun the Swan is played by Ayame Goriki (TV drama BEGINNERS!). Jinpei the Swallow is played by Tatsuomi Hamada (KAIZOKU SENTAI GOKAIGER VS. SPACE SHERIFF GAVAN). Rounding out the cast as Ryu the Owl is Ryohei Suzuki (TRAIN BRAIN EXPRESS).
The film is currently in post-production with Toya Sato directing from a script by Yusuke Watanabe. Alpha Stunts co-founder Tatsuro Koike serves as the film’s stunt coordinator. GATCHAMAN is set for a theatrical release in Japan on August 24, 2013.
