Record company and publishing paperwork

what paper work do you need to make your record company and your publishing company official?

so if i got a business license for my record company and a business license for my publishing co im officail?
theres nothing else i need?

you probably want to join BMI to get your royalties for any radio play you might get. There are several great books on this subject, the names of which escape me right now... I'm sure someone else remebers them. But I would read up a little more before commiting any of your resources or time seriously to it so that you're positive you can handle all of the responsibilities on the business end and still be an artitst.

Yup, a business license is all you need. I agree with Bumpus that you should definately read up on how it all works because when you start a company, you take on an ongoing expense. I don't recommend doing it until you are at a point where you really need to..... or you have money to throw away.
