The 29-year-old played seven seasons in New England, notching 19 interceptions, seven sacks, 12 forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries. The durable safety has played in all 112 professional games during his career, and started 106 consecutive contests.

Milloy was voted a team captain in 1999 and remained one until his release. He led the team in tackles from 1998-2001, collecting 846 in his Patriots career.

The 6-foot, 210-pounder was named to four Pro Bowls since 1998, including last season's.

The Patriots had hoped to reduce Milloy's 2003 salary cap number -- in the $5.8 million range -- but were unable to reach an agreement. The team is now able to spread out the cap damage over two seasons.

Aric Morris, Chris Akins and Antwan Harris are candidates to replace Milloy as a starter.
