@sai
i agree: tsui hark is hit or miss but when he's
on he's right up there w/ old school john woo
or ringo lam. have you seen black mask 2?
it's even WORSE than 1. i just about cried,
having wasted precious hours of my time
hoping for another TIME & TIDE. no such luck.
have you seen ZU WARRIORS? iv'e seen ads
for it here but it never saw release. you got
any data on that?
re: beat takeshi. been a fan of his for years.
didn't know sony watered it down, where
can i get the import? i still think his best
was FIREWORKS. that muthufucka is hard.
& he was in a new 1, it's on the new releases
wall, i forget the name, but it's the story of
a boy looking for his mother who befriends
takeshi on the way. it's actually more of
a comedy & a li'l slow but you get to see
takeshi's comedian side which is pretty
funny. he actually used to be a comedian
in japan, really funny, until he had a
motorcycle accident, near death, & came
back to make gritty yakuza flicks. needless
to say i'm an afficiando of his work.
best jet li: once upon a time in china 1.
the last 20 minutes, w/ the ladder fight
(ripped-off & watered down in america's
MUSKETEER movie) & the endangered
baby (what is it w/ tsui hark & babies?)
is tight as fuck.
there's another movie of his i saw at
a movie theatre years ago & never got
the title, i haven't found on american shelves
yet, pissing me off. it starts w/ this demon
killer who jet li fights w/ bamboo staffs
near the end, i recall it being real good.
ring a bell w/ you at all? i would love
to see that again. 2nd runner up would
be jet li's version of THE BODYGAURD.
the final fight scene w/ the leaking gas
was brilliant. & imma say ROMEO MUST DIE
was very good. better than i expected &
a good example of what a good modern
martial arts movie can be.
sai: you taking your name from the weapons
elektra uses?
re: "one of us," we played it on the old
school siccness radio (back in the roloc days)
& im sure folks made copies. but i was never
pleased w/ my verse in that 1. i've since
cannibalised it for parts in other songs.
