WARNING: THIS VIDEO CONTAINS MILD SPOILERS!

We here at Screen Rant have spent this past month reporting (and discussing on the Screen Rant Underground Podcast) Universal’s plans after Fast & Furious 6 releases this May. That includes rushing Fast & Furious 7 into theaters by next year – thus ensuring the studio has one major tentpole enrolled for the middle of the Summer 2014 season – and, possibly, spinning off a standalone vehicle (these car puns write themselves…) headlined by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Agent Luke Hobbs.

However, for a change of pace, today we’ll just stick to talking about the NEXT Fast and the Furious movie, with our focus on a newly-released featurette about Fast & Furious 6. The video includes previously-unseen footage and details on the story, which picks up with Dom (Vin Diesel) and his fellow outlaws as they enjoy the benefits that came with stealing $100 million (during the events in Fast Five).

Fast & Furious 6 featurette with Vin Diesel

That Michelle Rodriguez is coming back to the franchise for Fast & Furious 6 – to reprise her role as Dom’s thought to be dead sweetheart Letty – was revealed two years ago, during the mid-credits scene in Fast Five. However, this is the first we’ve heard about the reason for her falling in with the antagonist Owen Shaw (Luke Evans) and his own team of thieving, vehicular-racing “wolves” (as director Justin Lin calls them).

Yes, the explanation for Letty’s change in loyalty is as cliche and corny as drama-stirring plot devices come, but that’s the Fast and the Furious property for you. Give screenwriter Chris Morgan credit: he’s keeping the series’ theme of modern family identity intact – by pitting Dom’s sentimentality against Shaw’s mercenary outlook – and thus, setting the stage for an emotionally-charged showdown in the seventh movie, as will be setup by the Fast & Furious 6 post-credits scene.

Fast & Furious 6 stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Elsa Pataky, Gina Carano, Luke Evans, Joe Taslim and Clara Paget.
