Champion says they are ending their business relationship with Mendenhall since the athletic brand doesn’t think he “can appropriately represent Champion,” spokesman Matt Hall told USAToday’s Game On! blog on Thursday.
Mendenhall had signed an endorsement with Champion in 2008 and recently signed a four-year extension to endorse the company through 2015.
On Wednesday, Mendenhall used his blog to clarify what he was trying to say.
Pittsburgh Steelers Rashard Mendenhall went viral on the web with these statements on his Twitter account: “What kind of person celebrates death? It’s amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We’ve only heard one side.” One side of what?
He also tweeted this, about Sept. 11: “We’ll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style.”
