sorry if there is a thread already about this fight.

I've met Marcos a couple times and he is a real cool cat. He is from KC, Ks which is why I am talking about him.

I heard Yorkis Gamoa is no joke. Hopefully Marcos will give him a run for his money.

JL .. any reason why Ramirez hasn't fought in over a year? I can't imagine why a guy who's 25-0 and was fighting fairly consistent would take over a year layoff. Even still I'll be pulling for Gamboa and if Ramirez comes into the ring rusty .. he's fucked.

Gamboa's looked pretty impressive so far, but I'm just waiting to see him in there with someone who's a good fighter. He's fought a couple decent fighters, but nothing substantial, yet. Nothing wrong with that; it's good to take it slow, and not give into the hype and throw the kid into the ring with a star before he's ready.

For a guy with 11 pro fights, his opposition has been great. Look at the records:

Gamboa has been moved pretty fast, I mean he's only been a pro since April of 2007. Everyone he's fought has a winning record. That is very rare for an up and comer to fight guys like this....normally when your building a young fighter you have them fight a bunch of bums and slowly move them up. Granted Gamboa had like 3 or 4 hundred amateur fights, but still it's impressive. Compare that to Ramirez's resume, http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=54556&cat=boxer (look at his oppositions records; it's not that bad, but you see a lot of REALLY bad records like guys with records of 3-22, 0-9, 0-5, 3-7, 3-12, 35-97, etc.)

Not to put much personal business out there, but dude has been going through a divorce which I heard was just pronounced final. I heard he debated retirement. I know Gamboa is "the truth" and I am sure he will win. This is the 2nd boxer from Kansas City to fight on HBO. First one was Tommy Morrison, so everyone around here it treating it like it is a big deal. Which for the most part it is. I just hope Ramirez makes it go to atleast the 5th round......

Ramirez gave this dude his first lost last year. It was on ESPN 2. I went to see it. Everyone thought he would loose that one too.

I am not saying he will win. I am just glad to see him boxing on HBO.

Gamboa goes down in the first.

Replay shows it was from an accidental elbow, but the second shot as he was going down did some damage, too, IMO. Gamboa going in too wildly, leading with his head.

Kellerman: "Early in his career, he's shown more Naseem Hamed than Roy Jones."




Ramirez goes down in second, and comes back to trade blows in a great exchange, but he got hurt pretty seriously. Ramirez tries to get up, and a quick count by the ref! WTF?

Damn...that was gay.

And, sorry, 2-0-Sixx, but I'm still not sold on dude. A serious puncher with defensive boxing skills would do something bad to this kid, fighting the way he has so far.

Gamboa looked more skilled they had about the same hand speed but on them knockdowns Gamboa threw some good shots i was surprised he threw

He's still extremely young in his career and he's beating high quality opponents. He's only really been dropped twice in his career against Jimenez and Ramirez, the knock down called against De Jesus was their feet getting tangled when De Jesus' punch didn't even land.

He's in a division that doesn't really have the kind of guy you're talking about. As he gets more and more comfortable in the professional ranks he's going to be even harder to deal with.

He looked fine to me. I mean that knock down was clearly caused by an elbow and he came back knocking dude down twice who never been knocked down before. that shows a lot of power. Plus, gamboa is still young in his pro career, only 12 fights, most of these cats he's fighting are more experienced on a pro level. He will learn and fine tune his game.
