Coming into today's game the A's were the hottest team in baseball, winning 8 of their last 10.

The A's are in it just as much as the Angels or Yankees are... But the A's have an advantage. The A's have a very balanced lineup and enough depth where someone can miss some games and they'll still win. They also have the best pitching in the American League. The Angels have very good pitching, a bullpen that's falling apart as of late, and an unbalanced lineup that heavily relies on Vlad. The Yankees can sometimes score a ton of runs but have bad pitching.

Crosby is only gonna be out for a few weeks. He was also out in April and the A's were still a .500 team. In May it looked like the team got better because he came back, but it was also because of the return of Nick Swisher and the addition of Dan Johnson... Not to mention Chavez was hitting about .200 and has been hitting .300 since. Crosby has been slowing down over the last couple months, he wasn't on the same tear he went on in June... Scutaro can pick up his slack for now.

Oh yeah, we also have Jay Payton now, who's 5th in the AL in HR's since the All-Star Break (behind A-Rod, Giambi, Ortiz and Sexson.)

A's are still my pick to win the West, and I think they'll only have to play a little over .500 from here on out to do it.
