"After my contract with the UFC ends and end my career in MMA, I intend to have a boxing match with Roy Jones. That’s something that’s already been arranged, it’s all practically a done deal. Now I just have to wait and see."

UFC middleweight champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva seems to be merely biding his time until the completion of his UFC contract to finally test himself in the world of professional boxing. “The Spider” first mentioned his interest in the sweet science after he dispatched of Dan Henderson at UFC 82: “Pride of a Champion” in March 2008. And there is perhaps no boxer who has accomplished more in the sport in the past decade and a half than Jones Jr., although he could be considered past his prime despite winning four of his last five bouts. Is Anderson getting too big for his britches? Or does he have the stuff to hang with the boxing legend?

man, roy jones has been basically a shot fighter for 5 years. I mean look at his fight with calzaghe recently, where he won one round out of 12 (and that was the first round):

He did however look decent last week against a bum, Omar Sheika.

But because of the two names I suppose this will be a pretty big event. Even a washed up, 40 year old Jones I'd pick winning this fight based on experience. Silva does have a good punchers chance though since Jones has been KTFO twice since falling so hard from the top of the game and Silva does have good boxing skills, probably the best I've seen in MMA.

If the fight happened now, I'd think Roy Jones Jr would win.

But since the fight isn't gonna happen for another 2-3 years, Anderson has what? 5 fights left in the UFC?

By then Roy is gonna be even older, and Anderson will not be too old. So maybe Anderson Silva could take him in 2012...

Dana White Should jus let Sliva fight him after his next fight
and what does the ufc have to gain from it? worst case scenario he loses the fight and he all of a sudden doesnt look like hes pound for pound one of the best and it diminishes him and every other fighter.

Agreed. I love both Anderson Silva and RJJ, but come on! I hope RJJ whoops that ass if Anderson Silva doesn't focus on MMA and rushes his contract with the UFC just to box him. Anderson Silva will go down as the greatest 185 fighter in the history of MMA if he keeps it up and I respect his drive and hunger to compete in all aspects of combat sports.

Not that I would care much to see this fight, but from a business standpoint, I could see how it would benefit the UFC.

You would get hardcore boxing loyalists, who for the most part hate MMA, to at least tune in and assuming Silva puts up a good fight or even wins, it could show them that these fighters aren't just 'mediocre' at a bunch of different diciplines.

I don't know. Or he could get KTFO by a washed up Jones, and go back and dominate the UFC, no harm no foul, in terms of MMA fans.

Yeah.. But to fans outside of MMA who haven't given it a shot yet, it makes MMA look terrible and weak.
Not really. They would be fighting in a boxing match.

If Spider loses, even if he loses badly, it really doesn't change what he's accomplished in MMA, and I don't think it has any affect on his stature in MMA.

Sure, there would be a few hardcore boxing fans who would be on some ' I told you so ' shit, but I think fans like that will probably never be MMA fans anyways.

I'm positive there will also be a few people who will respect Silva and in turn MMA more if he puts up a good fight, and maybe the sport may have earned a few new fans.

For the record, I could care less about this fight happening.

^^But anyone with half a brain understands its a different sport. I mean I'm sure MMA fans weren't talking crazy shit about boxing because old Ray Mercer lost to Kimbo
You might wanna check out Sherdog around the time that happened. Elitists fans on both sides are as retarded as it gets. I guarantee a bunch of people will be talking shit on MMA if Silva loses badly. It's just the way it is .. if this fight happens I'll watch but I could give a shit about it happening either way.

If Silva would've dedicated more time to boxing I'd be interested.
