I had it 116-111 Kovalev. very close fight, with flurries from both guys but you have to give those rounds to the champ imo. Wards body work was a great gameplan esp. late in the fight and obviously bothered Kovalev but Kovalevs aggression and output was better minus a round or two late.

I dont give rounds to the champ because hes the champ. You either score a fight by the system or you use that you have to beat the champ mentality. You cant have it both ways. People always say you have to beat the champ. Well if the challenger won 7 close rounds to the champs 5 then the challenger wins. There cant be hey it was close and even though the challenger mightve won 7 rounds you have to beat the champ. It doesnt work like that. You either score the fight or go by that beat the champ mentality. Got Em!!

yeah im not budging on the rounds i said Ward won. They both were undefeated champs, fuck that having to beat the champ shit. Its funny that everyone wants to give Kovalev the fight so badly cuz of the knockdown

Right, the "you gotta do more to take the belt away from the champion" argument doesn't work in boxing, since there are 12 individual rounds that must be scored and handed in after each round. It's real simple.

My issue with the judges scores how they all have round ten to Kovalev, which in my mind was a clear Kovalev round. If they score that for Kovalev, he wins the fight. Here is the breakdown:

All three judges gave Round 1 and Round 2 to Kovalev, with a 10-8 score in the second round reflecting the knockdown Kovalev scored on Ward.

Two judges (McKaie and Clements) gave Round 3 to Kovalev. One (Trowbridge) gave it to Ward.

All three judges gave Round 4 to Kovalev.

Two judges (McKaie and Clements) gave Round 5 to Ward. One (Trowbridge) gave it to Kovalev.

Two judges (McKaie and Trowbridge) gave Round 6 to Kovalev. One (Clements) gave it to Ward.

By that halfway point, McKaie and Trowbridge had Kovalev ahead 59-54, or five rounds to one. Clements had Kovalev ahead 58-55, or four rounds to two.

In the second half, the judges almost wholly favored Ward in very close rounds. All three judges gave Round 7, Round 8 and Round 9 to Ward.

All three judges also gave Round 10 to Ward. That scoring in particular raised the eyebrows of respected BoxingScene.com scribe Cliff Rold. “There simply isn’t a good case to have Ward winning the 10th,” Rold said on Twitter, soon after the bout ended. He rewatched the fight on Sunday and still had Kovalev winning the 10th. “Ward had moments, but in a relatively high output round, Kovalev landed more and blunted with the jab in the second half,” he said.

All three judges also gave Round 11 to Ward. By that point, going into the final round, McKaie and Trowbridge had the fight even at 104-104, while Clements had Ward ahead 105-103. Clements gave the 12th to Kovalev. McKaie and Trowbridge gave the 12th to Ward.

I have to watch the 10th round again because I dont remember giving Kovalev any rounds after the 6th round to be honest. There were a couple of close rounds but I think I gave them all to Ward. Got Em!!

So that poll was 128 people. This, a poll from badlefthook, had nearly 5,000 people:

Haven't seen a fight this divided since Pacquiao vs Marquez III. That fight had a MUCH stronger case for JMM winning then Ward over Kovalev imo.

All I hope is Ward gives Kovalev an immediate rematch. I don't want to see any tune ups, I don't want to see we got to build it up and have interim fights first, I just want an immediate fight. I'm a little uncertain too, just from comments of Ward saying this wasn't his toughest fight, that Local doesn't hit that hard and that Edison Miranda was a tougher fight that Kovalev was. Just not giving any props basically. Which is fine if he gives a rematch, it's just I hear guys talk like that when they aren't interested in an immediate rematch. idk, if Mayweather gave Castillo an immediate rematch, and Ward wants to be the next P4P great for many years to come like Floyd was, then he needs to set the record straight and erase any doubts as to who is better.

I agree to that, an immediate rematch should happen but this certainly is a long ways away from yall saying Ward is to inactive of a fighter. Marquez was totally robbed as far as im concerned. Kovalev didnt dominate the fight like that.

In the third Pac-Marquez fight there is a much stronger case for a robbery than in this fight, without a doubt. This fight was extremely close.

Ward obviously has had long periods of inactivity in his career but in 2016 he fought 3 time, which is the most he's fought since 2009. So inactivity shouldn't be a problem for Ward going forward. I think financially it's the biggest fight as well, the only wrench that could be thrown in here is Adonis Stevenson. They could make some good money in Canada but he's been a nightmare for opponents to actually get in the ring, so who knows with that guy.

Ponamarev is decent. No match for Errol spence. But could possibly compete with the other welters.

I'm picking axe man to win this fight. Even with inactivity, I think lomachenko is biting off more than he can chew again.
