lol i want to be proud, i want to be happy about it...
but a decade of losing is a heavy weight to carry.

since no one else is playing the jaded fan i guess i will, lol. we're winning right now partly because the mariners couldn't possibly get worse. all of the pressure is off, the mariners are simply playing and having fun. safeco field attendance is at repeated record lows. we're 28-27, 1.5 games behind first, but lets face it, any time the words "first place" or "playoffs" are said anywhere near the mariners they go into losing streaks and slumps.

if we can get into first place for awhile, then bomb the rest of the season and end up in last place, id be fine with that. the real fun is going to be in the next couple of years when we start seeing our better farm talent come up

Mariners end May two games over .500

^
The Seattle Mariners are looking like a team that is starting to find some cohesion, both in the pitching staff and at the plate.

On the last day of May, Justin Smoak(notes) delivered a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Mariners rallied to beat the Baltimore Orioles 3-2 at Safeco Field.

Eric Bedard had another solid start, giving up two runs on six hits while striking out seven O's in 6 1/3 innings. Unfortunately, Bedard didn't get any run support and Chris Ray(notes) picked up the win in relief after Smoak's bomb. Brandon League(notes) converted his 15th save for the M's.

It is really hard not to get just a little bit excited about this team so far. Granted, it is only the end of May. In addition, the Mariners are only two games over .500, which is hardly the sign of a dominating season. However, this team has been so dreadful the last few years that it is exciting to see some positive momentum.

The Mariners have now won 11 of their last 13 games. Unfortunately, Seattle had an absolutely dreadful crowd at this game of less than 12,000 fans. Hopefully, the Emerald City will start coming out and supporting a team that appears to be on the rise.

According to reports, Chone Figgins(notes) is being given a few days off. I'm not really sure what is going on with the struggling third baseman, but I really hope he isn't following in the footsteps of underachieving Mariner free agents like Richie Sexson and Adrian Beltre(notes). What happened to this guy anyway?

Seattle is only a 1/2-game back of the first-place Texas Rangers. It is interesting to note that as a team, the Mariners have still scored fewer runs than they have given up. Few winning teams have a negative differential between runs scored and runs allowed. Therefore, fans will have to be careful that they do not get too excited about this team unless the offense continues to show some decent productivity.

just want to reiterate that the mariners payroll is 86.5 million, ichiro gets 18 million. thats 20.8% of the mariners budget.

imagine you're at a dessert party with 25-40 people, and some asshole comes in and hogs 20 percent of the cake and ice cream, without contributing anything to the party other than slightly less than the bare minimum. lol

i believe ichiro is strictly getting paid to draw attention to the mariners, sell tickets, sell merchandise, and consistently perform at the highest level. obviously, with attendance at its lowest levels ever, hes not doing that. and obviously ichiro is not performing at his highest level.
its evident hes not paid to win games or go all out, winning is secondary to profit to the mariner owners.

if team owners actually wanted to win a world series, the mariners would divorce ichiro fast. the mariners need to move on from the ichiro era, which is a decade of losing miserably. the ichiro boat is sinking. we have to keep our performing youth paid, particularly Pineda. if pineda takes rookie of the year like i believe he will, id trash ichiro without thinking twice in order to pay the young man, and pay the youth thats going to be coming up in one or two years.

anyway sorry for the rant, thanks if you read it. what do the mariners fans here think about our chances of getting a world series? i dont see it ever happening with the current team owners.

Seattle Mariners won't reach the World Series any time soon. But you never know. And if they do, I'm attending every home game, even if it costs me my job.

They definitely need to up Pineda's and Smoak's salary, and lower Ichiro's.

Ichiro just hit a triple to bring in two runs.

And as I'm typing this, Ichiro just scored to tie the game up off a bunt by Brendan

Miguel Olivo connects on a three-run home run.

Miguel Olivo is congratulated by Jack Cust and Adam Kennedy after hitting a three run homer in the eighth inning to take a 9-6 lead.

Notice the face on the far right? lol

Shit, if they continue to be this good, I won't be surprised if they win the division.

I may be the only one here, but I can't wait til Aardsma returns.
