Floyd told Robin Leach that he was going to be announcing a fight in December, in Dubai. Floyd posted a picture with Robin Leach on his Twitter a few days ago as well...so even though you have to take everything Floyd (and his idiotic family and team) with a grain of salt...it does have some validity.

Will you be purchasing Pacquiao-Margarito on PPV?
By Chris Williams: This question is mostly aimed at non-fans of Manny Pacquiao because I got a pretty good idea that Pacquiao’s loyal fans will buy his fights on pay per view no matter who Bob Arum matches him up against. But is Pacquiao’s fight with Antonio Margarito worth plunking down $50 to watch it?
Keep in mind that Arum will likely have Kelly Pavlik as the co-main event against someone like Peter Manfredo Jr., which is a nice mismatch. Also there’s Guillermo Rigondeaux on the card against a still to be determined opponent. Ricardo Cordoba has been mentioned as a possible opponent for Rigondeaux.
But mostly boxing fans will choose to buy or not to buy this card based on the main event between Pacquiao and Margarito. If you think this is going to be an exciting match-up, chances are you’re going to want to pay the $50 to see it.
But for me, I don’t plan on paying to see it. It’s not that I’m broken up about Margarito having been found with loaded hand wraps in the past. I’m not pleased by that, but that’s not why I won’t be wasting my money on this fight.
The major reason I’m not going to purchase this fight is because I don’t see Margarito as being worthy of fighting for the title. I think he’s on the downside of his career and not someone that should be fighting for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title. I also don’t think Pacquiao deserves to fight for the title.
This fight just seems fake to me. If the title and the catch weight weren’t part of it, I’d feel a lot better about. But having a title on the line and then having it as a catch weight bout, it just seems really phony to me.
I would rather see Pacquiao fight someone like Sergio Martinez or Paul Williams if he wanted to go after a title, not someone like Margarito who got knocked silly by 38-year-old Shane Mosley last year.
That right there makes me not way to pay to see the fight. Why should I pay to see a guy that got beaten just last year by old fighter? And I already saw Pacquiao in a catch weight fight a year. I don’t pay to see him fight at another catch weight against someone from the same boxing club.
I would gladly watch this fight if Arum made it a complimentary free showing. I’d watch it then but that’s about it. I don’t even see this fight as a $5 bout. He couldn’t discount it enough for me to still want to pay to see it. The fight would have to be free, and I’d have to have an open schedule for that block of time because I don’t see the fight as being interesting.
I might watch the fight if they put Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on the undercard against Pavlik. I’d actually pay to see that fight, but only for the curiosity of how long it would take before Chavez is massacred by Pavlik. But no way would I pay $50. That would be $5 fight as far as I’m concerned.

Maidana, 27, struggled to beat 36-year-old former WBO light welterweight champion DeMarcus Corley (37-14-1, 22 KO’s) by a 12 round unanimous decision at the Estadio Luna Park, Buenos Aires, Distrito Federal, Argentina. The final judges’ scores were 117-110, 115-112 and 116-110. Maidana looked poor throughout this fight and he should be grateful that Corley wasn’t five or six years younger, because he likely would have won this fight.
Corley, no more than a journeyman now who came into tonight’s fight having lost two out of his last three fights, overcame a 7th round knockdown and several other rough periods in the fight to take charge of the bout in the last three rounds and hurt Maidana multiple times. Instead of Maidana, the younger fighter, finishing up strong, it was Corley who was coming on and pounding the younger and highly hyped Maidana.
Corley got the better of the action in rounds one through four. Maidana just wasn’t throwing enough punches and looked a little uncoordinated. Maidana began to come on in the 5th round, landing some big shots to the head of Corley. In the 6th round, Maidana had Corley badly hurt from some big right hands near the end of the round. In the 7th, Maidana continued to batter Corley, and knocked him to the canvas. However, Maidana was unable to finish Corley off.
In the 8th and 9th rounds, Maidana continued to give Corley a one-sided beating. However, Maidana ran out of gas after the 9th and began to take punishment from Corley in the 10th. Maidana was hurt in the round. Corley continued to dominate in the 11th and 12th rounds, as Maidana was badly fatigued and looking confused.

Maidana had Corley down in the 7th round from some big power shots but was unable to finish him off, even though he pummeled him in both the 7th and 9th rounds. Maidana would later fade and look less than impressive in the last three rounds of the bout. But he did what he was supposed to do by getting the win by the scores of 117-110, 117-110 and 115-112.
Now it’s up to Khan to see if he’s willing to fight Maidana or if he wants to continue to put the fight off while he takes on more familiar names in the sport.
Khan lost out on a big opportunity when one of boxing’s biggest stars lightweight Juan Manuel Marquez decided to stay in his own weight class and fight WBO lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis instead of Khan.
This left Khan without a smaller, less powerful opponent for him to fight. Now if Khan wants to fight someone, he and his promotional team are going to have to dig someone up by December. Khan wants to fight on December 11th in Britain. However, for the fight to be shown on HBO in the United States, Khan will have to pick a quality opponent like Maidana or Victor Ortiz to fight.
Khan previously beat Ortiz in the amateur ranks, but that was with protective head gear on. Ortiz hits at least as hard as Maidana, if not harder. He would be a lot of problems for Khan because of his power and his hand speed.
Maidana is not that fast, but Ortiz is. Khan might be better off taking on Maidana rather than Ortiz right now. If Maidana is truly as bad as he looked against Corley, then this should be a fight that Khan can win as long as he doesn’t hit too much.
If Maidana hits Khan with anything flush, Khan might end up getting stopped. But the real question is whether Khan will even take the fight with Maidana.

Pascal-Hopkins: Shaw Questions HBO's Involvement

Promoter Gary Shaw is questioning the willingness of HBO to televise a fight between WBC/IBO light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal and former champion Bernard Hopkins. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer advised BoxingScene.com's Lem Satterfield that Pascal-Hopkins could possibly take place on December 18.
Shaw, and two other promoters who spoke to BoxingScene, were advised that HBO yanked the date of December 18 from boxing and reserved it for an upcoming concert.
According to Shaw, he presented HBO with a possible fight between Chad Dawson and Hopkins [prior to Dawson losing to Pascal] and the network turned it down because there was little interest in showcasing Hopkins after his performance against Roy Jones Jr. in April. The possibility of HBO providing preferential treatment to another promoter has Shaw a little uptight.
"I offered HBO a fight between Dawson and Hopkins, and they turned it down because they said they weren't interested in televising Hopkins. And you can ask Richard Schaefer because I told him what HBO had said. I don't know how Schaefer is talking about a date of December 18 when HBO is telling everyone they plan to go dark [no boxing] on that date," Shaw told BoxingScene.com.
BoxingScene spoke to Don Majeski, the agent for Pascal, who said a Pascal-Hopkins deal was not dependent on the availability of an HBO date or the network's involvement.
"A deal for Pascal and Hopkins doesn't depend on HBO. Pascal is going to fight before the end of the year, with or without HBO," Majeski told BoxingScene.com.

Ivan Calderon: "I Couldn't Recover From The Liver Shot"

Segura landed a shot to the liver in the eight round. Calderon went down to a knee and took the full count. The fight was a war and fought at a close pace.
Going into the eigth round, Segura was leading on the official cards with a split decision. Two judges favored Segura with scores of 67-66 and 68-65 but the third judge, Carlos Colon of Puerto Rico, had it scored for Calderon. There are conflicting reports over his score, with some noting it as 69-65 and others as 67-66.
Calderon said he couldn't recover from the liver shot. He plans to return in 2011 after a good rest.
"I fought a fight that was not mine but I lost to warrior. I wanted to stand a bit to fight toe to toe, but he planted a good shot to the liver and I could not recover. Segura has no style, but he has a big heart, fought like a warrior. I think I deserve another chance. I'll relax and return next year. One falls but he has to raise himself up, just like Tito Trinidad and Miguel Cotto who fell but got up," Calderon said.
