The 5 Ugliest Hip Hop Beefs of 2013

On wax or on Twitter, friendly and not-so friendly competition has always been a staple in hip hop. And sometimes it gets ugly. Here are our 5 of the Ugliest Hip Hop Beefs of 2013.

#5: Azealia Banks vs.Rita Ora. This is one of our favorites because it’s just silly. Rita Ora said she was bringing Jellies back. Azealia Banks said nuh uh. Then she called Ora Rihanna’s understudy. Meow.

#4: Lil Kim Vs. Lil Wayne. Kim slammed Weezy on Twitter after he poked fun at her surgically enhanced looks on his “Pure Columbia” track. He rapped, “I done lost a couple hoes/But I’m still a pimp/Just changed the face of my Rollie/Shout out Lil’ Kim.”

#3: Trinidad James vs. Maino. When Trinidad James said he was the King of New York and the South runs hip hop, NYC’s own Maino fired back on all forms of social media — then he taped a conversation with James asking him to apologize, making this beef not just ugly, but creepy too.

#2: Ray J vs. Kanye. Ray J put out “I Hit It First” — a crass reminder to Yeezy that he sexed up Kim Kardashian on home video. Kanye hit back in a performance on Jimmy Fallon, dropping the line “Brandy’s little sister lame man he know it now … When a real brother hold you down, you ‘sposed to drown.” Ouch.

#1: Kendrick vs. everybody. K Dot called out pretty much the whole hip hop community on his “Control” verse. Mac Miller, A$AP Rocky, Pusha T, J Cole and more took up the challenge. But this isn’t USDA Prime beef — this is just one of hip hop’s brightest just lighting a competitive fire.
