Controversial hip hop star Rick Ross was dropped from his endorsement deal with athletic goods retailer Reebok today (April 11th.) The brand terminated its relationship with Ross, whose lyrics on the song “U.O.E.N.O.” featuring lyrics that seem to boast about drugging and having sex with a woman who is unaware. Ross has been at the center of a backlash for weeks, and women’s advocacy groups staged a protest outside Reebok’s headquarters last week.
“While we do not believe that Rick Ross condones sexual assault, we are very disappointed he has yet to display an understanding of the seriousness of this issue or an appropriate level of remorse,” Reebok, a subsidiary of Germany company Adidas, said via statement. “At this time, it is in everyone’s best interest for Reebok to end its partnership with Mr. Ross.”
