N.W.A. To Reunite For A Reunion Tour With Eminem
It’s all happening–in Europe, at least. N.W.A. will reportedly reunite for a brand new string of tour dates to commemorate the release of Straight Outta Compton, the new biopic film that (re)tells the story of the rise of one of the most influential groups in hip-hop. In a new feature from The Hollywood Reporter, those close to N.W.A. speak at length on the new film and what’s next for the group, with Universal Pictures executive Donna Langley dropping the big bomb. Controversy or no controversy,” THR writes, “Langley is so gung ho about the film that her studio is planning on doing something nobody in the rap world thought was possible — reuniting N.W.A for a European tour to promote the movie, with Eminem.”
“We don’t have anything settled yet with everyone’s schedules,” Langley told the entertainment news outlet, “But we think it can create a lot of buzz.”
Should the N.W.A. reunion tour materialize, it won’t be the first new live date to come as a result of Straight Outta Compton. The group already united (sans Dr. Dre) for a riveting performance at least month’s BET Experience. This, however, would feature the entire Compton cast and be the first proper tour for the group in decades.
The Hollywood Reporter interview goes on to touch on a multitude of items related to the pioneering West Coast rap ensemble, including new revelations about the upcoming film, the ongoing woes of Suge Knight, and the persistent relevance of N.W.A.’s music, even after all this time. “It shows that we were not only ahead of our time, but right on time,” Ice Cube said told the site. “It’s a constant situation between the powers that be and the neighborhoods we’ve come from. And most of the time you look and you see that it’s a thing where someone is abusing their authority or abusing their power and they’re shitting around.”
