Ice Cube Links With Coors Light For Coldest MC Search

Ice Cube is partnering with Coors Light for the second year in a row to host the Coldest MC search which will embark on a nationwide tour to find undiscovered talent. The search will select one finalist after a grand finale concert on August 1st in New York to win $20,000.

The Coldest MC launched last year, but there’s installment of the talent search will expand to an eight city tour that includes stops in Dallas, Chicago, Charlotte, New Orleans, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Atlanta and New York, accord to Billboard.com’s The Juice. Contestants can upload audio or video submissions in April which will be voted on by fans until the end of June.

Ice Cube explained that the expanded tour will allow the search to showcase more talent. “Last year was my first time jumping on it [the tour] and we saw some great talent all over the country. This year we wanted to up the ante [and] see if we can get more flavor in there. It’s just cool that Coors Light is reaching back when it comes to hip-hop and grabbing some of these young MCs with talent but no outlets,” Ice Cube said.

Cube explained that the tour addresses a gap in the recording industry that prevents talented artists from finding representation. “A lot of people want to be signed but can’t find the right [record] label. Labels are not really signing [acts], they’re frustrated. So here you go, here’s the contest for you, so you can show the world what you got,” said Cube.
