Genius Reflects On His East Atlanta Roots In New Visual “Grew Up” Ft. Mr 2-17 & Felipe

Following the Release of “A Eastside Story: Deluxe Edition,” Genius Releases a Visual Detailing His Origin Story on the Eastside of Atlanta

Before touring with and hosting mixtapes for artists such as K Camp and Migos, DJ/Artist Genius was just a teenaged Jamaican immigrant trying to make it on the East Side of Atlanta. In the video for “Grew Up,” premiered today by HotNewHipHop, Genius retreats to his childhood home to reflect on his upbringings, accompanied by Felipe and Mr. 2-17, whose verses detail their respective come-ups. “The Eastside holds a lot of significance for me because it taught me the street & hip-hop culture of Atlanta,” says Genius. As a foreign kid in a strange Atlanta neighborhood, Genius’ love of music and Hip-Hop allowed him to connect with others and make his mark on the city’s burgeoning scene. “I grew up a screw-up,” raps Genius on the hook, but look at him now.
