Hot! Dr. Dre Draws Ire of Olympic Officals

Olympic officials are ticked off, and “you can blame it on, Dre.”

Just in time for the 2012 summer games, Dr. Dre and his Beats by Dre team are said to have sent Union Jack-patterned editions of their headphones to Great Britain athletes, according to Yahoo!.  And now with swimmers and members of the British soccer team sporting the items all around town, officials are looking into whether they can take action to protect the brands of official Olympic sponsors.

“If there is a blatant attempt at ambush marketing or by a group of people with commercial views then of course we will intervene,” IOC president Jacques Rogge says.  Though officials are unlikely to order athletes not to wear the headphones, Yahoo reports that Olympians could be banned from tweeting about or mentioning in interviews the Beats by Dre gear.

British athletes aren’t the only ones rocking Beats by Dre headphones, of course.  Chinese swimmer Sun Yang was spotted wearing a pair of red headphones emblazoned with the famous “b.”  Then, of course, there’s Michael Phelps, who was seen at a swimming competition wearing a pair of Soul headphones, by Ludacris.
