After starting the year off with his video for “Soap,” Deem Spencer returns with a new video for his latest single, “iwyboft.”
“The ‘sunflower’ EP, in many ways, sheds light on how a lot of young people handle pettiness and bitterness. The song itself is very petty. When I was coming up with the visual concept, I just wanted to be funny. I’m laying with this guy’s girl and when he calls her, I grab her phone and disrespect,” Spencer says of “iwyboft.”
The Queens-based artist has maintained a steady stream of output, culminating in the release of his 2016 ‘Sunflower’ EP. Spencer’s appeal as an artist lies in striking, abstract lyrics and tense, atmospheric production. His backing instrumentals, while lush, are also stripped down, allowing for his poetic lyrics and soft vocals, whether they be sung or rapped, to take center stage.
