Cast of “Menace II Society” reunites on MTV’s “RapFix Live”

West Coast gangsta rap was so hardcore when it first came out that Congress had special votes to abolish it. But, this phase in hip hop soon became a major topic when people started documenting life out there. Through films like Boyz N The Hood and Menace II Society, it became easier to understand why the lyrics were so hardcore.

On the acting side, Larenz Tate was the star of the gangsta rap phase. He starred, alongside Tyrin Turner, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Samuel L. Jackson in Menace II Society. Larenz Tate also starred in the short-lived FOX drama/sitcom, “South Central,” which followed the film of the same name.

Twenty years since Menace II Society originally debuted, Sway Calloway reached out to the cast, Larenz Tate and Tyrin Turner. Tyrin Turner came and sat on the couch, meanwhile Larenz Tate communicated via Skype. They talked about the impact the film had on society.
