Hot! Blanco & The Jacka Drop First Visual From Heavily Anticipated Street Album

Bay Area rappers Blanco and The Jacka are set to release a three disc album series that will stretch through December and the first visual “Submit” (Here We Are) ft. Freeway, is but a taste of what to expect.

Taking cues from the 1988 feature film They Live, “Submit” finds the three rappers narrating in a world full of lost, desperate men. Surrounded by monsters and zombies, the wise find hope in the form of clues and/or signs written in bold print on surfaces typically reserved for daily direction.

The hints serve a dual purpose, in that each is a song title for the first of the three albums, offering stark demands such as “Do Not Question The Authority,” “Consume,” “This Is Your God” and “Conform.”

A graffiti inspired project with a moving tribute to Charleston, South Carolina’s legendary street artist Shepard Fairy, OBEY captures the essence of street culture before a single beat is rendered to the ear. As for beats, Hieroglyphics’ DJ Toure handles that, with seven exclusive tracks made specifically for OBEY.

Its successors, MISFITS and GAME OVER, featuring the board work of AraabMuzik and Bedrock respectively – as well as homage to England’s Banksy and Invader of France – follow the same model creatively. However, each album promises to offer conceptual differences that make either one unique in its own right.

“It’s kind of like hijacked art if you think about it,” said Blanco. “And the artists themselves were into that. They put their art where it shouldn’t be. They did street art [for] the people.”

A testament to the struggle and desire to overcome dire circumstances, or not, OBEY is available for purchase on iTunes. It is also be accessible for hard copy purchase at
