Once Marvel Studios launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one of the behind-the-scenes topics that became of particular interest for fans was contract lengths. They have previously led to plenty of speculation as to when certain actors could be leaving the franchise, but Marvel has shown the ability so far to extend contracts for a few individuals. Since the beginning of these deals, the standard has seemed to be six movies. All of the original Avengers had these deals and Marvel has continued this structure with some of its newest members too.

Tom Holland has only made one appearance so far as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, but his performance has made his upcoming solo film Spider-Man: Homecoming a highly anticipated project. This may only be the second appearance for the actor, but in case anyone was worried that he could be gone soon, Holland has confirmed that he also signed the typical Marvel contract.

In an interview with THR, Holland revealed that he initially was contracted for six Marvel films in total. Of the six films, it is split down the middle for what projects he could appear in. Three of these appearances will be in his own Spider-Man trilogy, where plans for the sequel are already underway, and the other three are available for other Marvel films, such as his still-unconfirmed appearance in Avengers: Infinity War. Despite having this contract, Holland is grateful that Marvel continues to work with him so he can explore other opportunities as well:

They give you options and those could be exercised whenever. Like a cameo in Avengers. I’m unclear as to which movies though. I do know I have three Spider-Man [appearances in other] movies and three solo movies contracted. But if you have another movie, Marvel is so good at working around it. They’re very respectful of your life, really. They understand that you have to work on other movies, and they try and fix it up so you can work around each other.
Holland may have only signed a six picture deal to begin with, but as long as his solo movies prove to be as successful as expected and liked as much as his brief time in Civil War, it is hard to imagine Peter Parker’s story ending that soon. Marvel and Sony are focused on showing his life as a high-schooler for his first few solo movies, so the decision to rid themselves of Parker during his college days or early adulthood would be quite the surprise.

Marvel Studios has been waiting for a long time to have Spider-Man in the MCU – and the character now has the ability to be the face of the MCU, possibly for the next decade. Holland just turned 20 years old this summer, making him significantly younger than any other current MCU film stars. The Spider-Man franchise will in all likelihood continue well past Holland’s time as Peter (with requests for Miles Morales continuing), but for now everyone can rest assured that he will be the man behind the mask for four more appearances after Spider-Man: Homecoming.
