Michael Myers is back. Dimension Films and Trancas International Films announced that the next Halloween film, Halloween Returns, will start production next month. Marcus Dunstan will direct, replacing Rob Zombie, who shepherded both Halloween (2007) and Halloween II (2009). The plot for Returns is unknown.

“Michael Myers has taken a long break from the big screen and we know fans are eager to see him return,” Bob Weinstein, co-chair of Dimension and its parent company, The Weinstein Company, said in a statement. “We are excited to be back in business with Trancas and look forward to bringing one of the scariest installments of this classic franchise to audiences worldwide.”

Zombie’s films, both of which were under the Dimension and Trancas banner, were financial successes, with budgets less than $20 million and worldwide hauls of $80 million (Halloween) and almost $40 million (Halloween II). Zombie’s first film was a remake of the classic John Carpenter 1978 thriller, which starred Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasance.

Dunstan will work with familiar collaborator Patrick Melton. The pair co-wrote the Returns script, as well as the books for the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh installments of the Saw franchise.

Malek Akkad will produce, while Matthew Stein will executive produce.
