Martin Scorsese To Direct Mike Tyson Biopic Movie Played By Jamie Foxx

So the life of Mike Tyson seems like obvious source material for a big-screen adaptation. The boxer’s life has been marked by more than his share of controversies and scandals – and when word arrived that Oscar winner Jamie Foxx is set to star in a film based on Tyson’s life, the film instantly showed promise. Today’s news will instantly lift anticipation for the movie even higher.

New York’s Power 101.5 recently talked with Foxx; the comedian/actor/singer was on the station’s The Breakfast Club morning show to debut his new single, but he also casually dropped some big news on his upcoming Tyson biopic. Here’s what Foxx had to say:

“I just went in with Paramount with Mike Tyson. So I’m going to do the Mike Tyson story. Listen, to be in the same room pitching Mike Tyson to Paramount, Mike Tyson is on one side, I’m on the other side and doing Mike Tyson at the same time. And Martin Scorsese at the helm. This will be the first boxing movie that Martin Scorsese has done since Raging Bull.”

Be interesting to see how they pull off 80's/90's Tyson with Jamie Foxx considering they're only a year a part in age.

Will be weird seeing nearly 50 year old Jamie Foxx playing 20 year old Mike Tyson regardless of the make up they'll have to use.

In the second video posted Jamie Foxx is talking about they are using a lot of CGI for a younger Tyson. When I first heard Foxx was to play Tyson I was thinking WTF but the technology has came so far and when done right looks so natural they can pull it off. Plus with Scorsese directing I'm fully onboard now. He obviously made one of the great boxing films of all time with The Raging Bull and if I'm not mistaken, hasn't done a boxing movie since so this dope as fuck.

Will Smith was a horrible choice for Ali and that movie was so damn shallow as far as the plot went. Will Smith did the best he could I'm sure it's just he was all wrong for the part, which in fairness is an impossible role to play for anyone, and it certainly didn't help how vanilla the film was which is shame with how complex of a person Ali was.

On top of this, another boxing legend has a movie just came out that is getting good reviews - Hands of Stone, about legendary Roberto Duran. All the trailers seem to focus on Usher as Sugar Ray Leonard, probably because he's more known and the movie focuses on Duran's trainer played by Robert DiNero, training him for his biggest fight against Sugar Ray, but everything I've heard about it and read is solid. People are saying the actor playing Duran, Édgar Ramírez, really nails the part of Roberto Duran, captured the essence of the man perfectly I hear. And Usher with his mini afro actually looks a lot like SRL. Looking forward to that as well.

Even from seeing the trailer only, you can tell it's not a good flick. 6.5 is certainly below par.

Not sure, what I was talking about is the actor playing Duran and how he nailed the part, the movie itself I read is solid but haven't heard anything stating it's spectacular or anything like that. Mind you, this was some weeks ago pre-release, maybe some of that was hype pieces idk. But for sake of discussion (Jamie Foxx being Tyson, Will Smith being Ali and Édgar Ramírez as Duran) I'm mostly just focusing on the actors. I have seen a few discussions on boxing sites with big Duran fans saying the actor does a great job, obviously those are boxing fans but usually boxing fans are the most critical when it comes to boxing movies. Duran is such an interesting character so I'm going to check it out solely for that reason (I don't care so much about his trainer and his story (Robert De Niro).
