The Dark Tower [July 28, 2017]

Damn, completely forgot they made this movie.

-Based on the series of novels of the same name by Stephen King. The film is a quasi-sequel to the The Dark Tower book series, following the ending of The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower.

-Idris Elba as The gunslinger
-Matthew McConaughey as The Man in Back

-Directed by Nikolaj Arcel (Danish filmmaker, A Royal Affair, Island of Lost Souls, King's Game).

LOVE the casting for this and loved the first couple books. Hated the ending and don't think there's a chance in hell they can capture what made the books special. Here's to hoping I'm wrong.

Sick but this is picking up where the last book left off?
Roland starts overs but this time has the horn?

I loved the books... don't know if the movie can do it justice

Well, after watching the trailer I think its now clear this movie looks like garbage, it's just a generic action flick that completely misses the point of the books and will only vaguely resemble the books:

I didn't realize there are FOUR screenwriters to this movie. That's way too many people. One of them is Akiva Goldsman, who always fucks up great stories (I am Legend, I, Robot, The Da Vinici Code, Winter's Tale, etc.), it's like his entire purpose in life is to adapt great stories into the most basic/generic movie possible.

That trailer looks like garbage. Too clear, not gritty enough. It's supposed to be a post-apocalyptic wasteland, not fucking Tucson. At least once it flops, we won't have to watch them completely fuck up the chemistry between Roland and Susannah.

Sucks because Idris is the man.

Yep exactly.

I do still have high hopes for Blade Runner 2049 though. Reason being is jthry have a lot of talented people working on the film, for example the Cinematographer is Roger Deakins who did The Shawshank Redemption, No Country for Old Men, The Big Lebowski, Fargo, 1984, etc. I also like how Ridley Scott is not directing, he's a producer, which is good for us since he's lost his touch in recent years and instead is Directed by Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Prisoners), who is talented, in his prime and a massive sci-fi fan. The sneak peaks look great so far. And I'm hoping Harrison Ford does early in the film, a passing of the torch so to speak to Gosling (Harrison Ford doesn't seem to work hard in acting these days just shows up lol).

Saw this last night...

...its been 25+ yrs since I (only) read the first two books.
I didnt have much expectation as far as sticking to the source material...

Its a LOOOOONG 88 MINS.

regardless of what the books were about, this movie contained the similar themes of other movies:

Its like The Neverending Story, The Dark Crystal, Lord of the Rings, Stargate, King Arthur, Ronin, Lone Wolf and Cub, Terminator 2, Dark City with a dash of Jessica Jones, nightmare on elm st and The Bodyguard.

Stephen King said he enjoyed it and that dude usually shits on movies based on his books. That's enough for me to give it a watch, might go see it this weekend.
