I don't see this one being close. Cotto was a really small junior middleweight and he's going to be in the ring against THE Middleweight champion of the world. Cotto is showing some balls moving up in weight again, but he was handily beaten and out boxed by Austin Trout at 154 who isn't nearly as skilled and powerful as Martinez. I see Cotto getting busted up pretty bad in this fight as the white towel is waived late.

I remember watching the Cotto Trout fight and noticing Cotto no trying to cut the ring as much, being a little bit too defensive that's just not his style. He will cut the ring very well in this fight and will force Martinez to take some good hits and fight back. Martinez will be in shock and not be able to take Cotto's hits like that. Martinez will hang for 12 rounds but lose a close one. Cotto by decision.

I believe Martinez will get the W by a decision.
Not really rooting for either one of them, since I am a fan of both.
The only way I see Cotto winning is if he turns it into a brawl and Martinez ditches his style and starts to slug it out as well. More than likely not going to happen.

Martinez is the better boxer. His style can beat Cotto the boxer, Cotto the brawler, Cotto the bully, whatever Cotto you want to put in a against him...a dialed in Martinez beats all of them.

Whatever happens, put your money on Cotto. Once Chavez jr caught up to Martinez, he almost lost the fight. Against Murray his legs were giving up on him again and it was proven he's age is catching up to him. With this being a catchweight fight AND Roach saying Cotto will come in at 155, the advantage is to Cotto. He will start the fight aggressive enough to wear Martinez down and will win. even so, the fix would be in more for Cotto since HBO doesn't want Cotto to fight against Canelo on Shosports ppv. Think about it and put your money on Cotto. Martinez will not look good in this fight and will be less marketable vs Canelo if he chooses to fight for showtime after Cotto. Martinez will have to KO Cotto early in order to make himself the next big deal. He does that then he will go to Showtime and fight Canelo, win, then Mayweather. Maybe even Mayweather in September? Be it he has to KO cotto but it won't happen

The catchweight is 159 pounds. That's what Sergio always weighs, 158, 159. How can the advantage be to Cotto? He was small at JMW he'll be even smaller against a MW.

Martinez beat the shit out of Chavez jr. Don't let the last round fool you. Chavez is very durable and has great stamina. Cotto is not durable (his face is as durable as wet toilet paper) and he doesn't have the greatest stamina. This was Chavez after he fought Sergio now imagine what will happen to Cotto:

You're banking everything on Sergios legs falling him. Against Murray it wasn't his legs that were the problem, the problem was Murray's high defensive guard. Sergio has problems against the high guard, peekaboo defensive style because he needs guys to open up to set up his shots. That's why he also struggled a bit against Darren Barker. Same high guard. Cotto doesn't have that kind of defense. This is a mismatch. I like Cotto, I'm a fan, but this fight is all wrong for him on every level. Martinez is bigger, faster, stronger, a better boxer, uses quick movement, better stamina. Literally everything is in Sergio's favor.

Chavez Jr was drained the fuck out and his skill level is nothing compared to Martinez so it should have been Chavez falling at the end, not Martinez. And I know fighters usually come in weighing a lb less than the limit, but there is a reason why Cotto wanted the catchweight for this fight. Martinez is older now and losing that weight takes a toll on the body especially as fragile as Martinez is. But I do agree with you on Cotto's face getting scabbed the fuck up real quick. His stamina is good enough for Martinez tho.

Lol Martinez isn't draining any weight to make 159, Thats what he always makes. The reason it's at 159 is because Cotto wantee lower, like 157, Sergio said no and they settled on 159 which is absolutely pointless. Makes no difference what so ever.

Chavez is a huge guy, is extremely durable and has good stamina that's why he was able to go 12 rounds against sergio. Cotto is 5'6 and a blown up welterweight. He got easily out boxed by Austin Trout. Think about that for a second. Trout isn't nearly as good as Sergio.

And Cotto fought a totally different fight than he normally does against Trout and that's known. And I'm not saying Martinez gets drained to fight but having to work out an extra day, or more, to lose that extra lb takes away from training for a fight. All those highlights of Martinez KOing fools and such is prime Martinez. He's not there no more. He's almost 40 and not build like Hopkins. No one is. Cotto is still young enough he just needed to regroup and he has. Im not saying Cotto by KO, but if it goes the distance and Cotto fights an impressive fight, the judges will give it to Cotto.

The main reason the legs concern me is because I wonder if it's going to affect his training. Coming off of two back to back surgeries at 39 years old. He also has been easier and easier to hit later in his career. He hasn't exactly had an easy run of it in the last 2.5 years.

Having said that, I think Cotto's last fight is being WAY over appreciated. Rodriguez isn't very good. I thought Cotto also didn't look that great against a completely shot out Margarito in the 2nd fight. Cotto doesn't do well when he's being hit clean. If Martinez is anything like the old, the jabs and combination punching are going to be a problem. Good fight on paper though. I hope Cotto get punished.

What do you mean it's known? Cotto didn't look like a beast because Trout was boxing him, used distance and beat him to the punch. It's the same Cotto just a bad style match up.

Why does Sergio have to work harder or work out an extra day or whatever when he ALWAYS weighs under 160? He typically weighs in between 157-159.

Cotto isn't prime himself bro. He's shop worn, too many wars, this may be his last fight.

Cotto is about to shock the boxing world. Martinez is hella old, that mothafucka cant hit and run like he use to. Cotto is gonna throw nothing but bombs when he traps Sergio in corners. He has more pop in his punches then when he first moved up to 154 and is more use to being at these higher weights now. Martinez wont use his size to his advantage like Trout did which will be his downfall

I forgot to add its pretty pathetic Sergio isn't willing come down more in weight but would if it was Mayweather he would damn near go down to 154. He's been somewhat of a pussy the last 2 years or so. Scared to fight Ward but so quick call out Manny and Floyd. Even scared to fight GGG in his own weight class. Say what u want about Floyd but he doesn't pick on smaller fighters

I was the only one here who said that Rodriguez shouldn't have been in the ring and that Cotto's win and performance were overhyped. Everyone else was saying shit like "Cotto is back" but said nothing when I showed them how pathetic Rodriguez was. Wait I take that back. 206 came with some bullshit about how Rodriguez used to be good.

I don't think it's an issue at all. I think it would be more pathetic if Cotto demanded that Martinez came down more in weight. He's the one chasing the Middleweight title, so it's stupid to negotiate a catchweight in my opinion. If you want the glory and honor of being a 4 division champ and you want the middleweight crown, fight at the middleweight limit. It's only 6 lbs more than 154.

lol @ only 6 lbs more when Cotto isnt a natural light middleweight. I already saw u say u hope Cotto gets a beating so i know ur biased but it doesn't change the fact Sergio is avoiding people that are at the same weight as him or higher
