I never understood why Mayweather allows Memo in his gym and continues to work with him and his fighters...

TMT Flirting With Possible Warning From USADA
Ironic isn't it?

Floyd Mayweather, the United States Anti-Doping Agency's (USADA) poster child for clean boxing, could be hit with a warning for an anti-doping rules violation (ADRV).

While some observers chuckled at expressed concern over Memo Heredia consulting Alex Ariza, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) may not think it's a laughing matter.

A new "prohibited association" clause was added to the 2015 WADA Code. Article 2.10 prohibited association is briefly touched upon in The Athletes Reference Guide to the 2015 Code:

"There have been several high-profile examples where athletes have continued to work with coaches who have been banned or with other individuals who have been criminally convicted for providing performance enhancing drugs.

A new feature of the Code taking effect at the start of 2015 makes it an anti-doping rule violation for you to associate with this sort of ‘athlete support person' once you have been specifically warned not to engage in that association."

Please refer to article 2.10 in the 2015 WADA Code for more specifics.

The catch, of course, is Memo has never been convicted for his distribution of performance enhancing drugs. Although he is a self-admitted and proven seller of PEDS, Memo was granted immunity (courtesy of Jeff Novitzky) for his cooperation. Accordingly, Memo went from potential defendant to federal witness/informant.

Still, if Memo was convicted, would his suspension be over by now?

Whatever it may be, the provision of "prohibited association" is intended to keep characters like Memo Heredia away from athletes that are under the Code's authority. Simple association (training, nutrition, or medical advice), either directly with the athlete or any part of the athlete support personal (ASP), is enough to warrant a warning and, if contact continues, a subsequent ADRV will be issued.

As reported by Fighthype, Heredia was consulting Ariza on "presenting power punching for Floyd." Memo believes Mayweather needs to work on his power to compete with Pacquiao. And Memo's work speaks for itself. Heredia said they (team Marquez) needed to knock out Manny to win the fight. So, he constructed a program to increase Marquez's power. It worked. When asked how he did it, Memo said he wouldn't tell because it's his "bread and butter."

There's a chuckle if you needed one.

Memo's history with performance enhancing drugs is well documented. In the German documentary, "Die Doping-Drahtzieher Der Leichtathletik" he injects himself with a banned substance. Memo further illustrates how easy it is to get those substances in Mexico. He also worked with USADA during their investigations. Travis Tygart, USADA CEO, compiled 19 pages of notes from his meeting with Memo.

In regards to article 2.10, it's ultimately up to USADA to make the first move. If USADA chooses to act, they will send a letter to Floyd informing him that they believe his continued association with Memo would be an ADRV. Don't be surprised if Memo or TMT makes a formal statement distancing themselves from each other.

Or not. It all depends on USADA's discernment of the provision and how applicable it is to the given situation.

Sport lawyers have indicated that there is a lot of room for interpretation concerning the "prohibited association" clause. They are unsure of how encompassing it is and how it will be enforced. But one thing is certain. It is intended to keep Memo and those of his likeness away from athletes participating in "protected" events.

There was a civil war in Mexico surrounding the Mayweather vs. Pacquaio fight -- TECATE VERSUS CORONA -- but now ... one beer has finally obtained the rights to be the official cerveza of the fight!

Here's the tale of the tape ... Tecate has been a long-time sponsor of Pacquaio -- while Corona has often backed Mayweather.

According to promoter Bob Arum, both companies were dead set on buying the rights ... which led to a good old fashioned BIDDING WAR!!

But when it comes to beer sponsors, there can only be uno ... and according to Arum, the winner was TECATE ... which bid $5.6 MILLION!!!!

"We've never seen anything like that on a beer sponsor," Arum told ESPN ... "Both companies were after it. It's a huge number."

Arum says Tecate's bid was $400k higher than Corona.
Hey, life can't always be a beach.

Manny Pacquiao Pulls Off Historic Multi-Network TV Coup

Eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao pulled off a historic television multi-network coup by using his persuasive influence and his negotiating skills to convince Solar Sports, which has the exclusive TV rights to his fights in the Philippines, to hammer out an agreement that would enable the Philippines three major networks, ABS-CBN, GMA 7 and TV 5 as well as Cignal TV, PLDT Smart and Sky Cable to telecast his "Fight of the Century" against Floyd Mayweather Jr simultaneously on May 2nd [May 3, Manila Time].

GMA network radio station dzBB will also broadcast a blow by blow account of the fight "live" from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas thereby guaranteeing that a target audience of an estimated 100 million Filipinos will be able to watch or listen to what promises to be an epic battle between two of the greatest welterweights of all-time in a bout that was five years in the making.

In the Philippines, Solar Sports has re-titled the epic encounter as the “Battle for Greatness.”

The agreement was announced in a press conference hosted by Solar Sports at the Solaire Resort and Casino at which representatives of the three networks together with Solar Sports TV and PLDT-Smart officials were present.

In brief remarks through Skype to representatives of the three networks as well as those of SkyCable, Cignal TV and PLDT Smart and the many other platforms that would carry the fight, Pacquiao expressed his gratitude to all who were involved in making this a reality and made special mention of Solar Sports Wilson Tieng who confessed he spent "sleepless nights" to help Pacquiao's dream of uniting the broadcast networks in the interest of the Filipino people come true.

Tieng revealed that “ It took two weeks and many sleepless nights to make this happen. At night time here we’re calling the US and at daytime here we’re bargaining with everyone.”

BoxingScene.com/New Standard/Viva Sports learned that there were tough back-and-forth negotiations between Solar and ABS-CBN until some 30 minutes before the contract was signed with Pacquiao playing a key role in ensuring an agreement was reached and as Tieng remarked “ the most important thing here is that Manny Pacquiao played a great part here. He was the one who wanted this. Solar Sports can only take part of the credit.”

Pacquiao was overjoyed at the success of his unifying efforts. Tieng said "it was tough for everyone" in reaching an agreement even as he indicated there is more work to be done in the weeks ahead to make this a truly magnificent example of how rivals can get together for a common cause with Pacquiao himself being the architect and someone who diligently pursued the cause of unifying our nation through his fights.

ABS-CBN Integrated Sports chief Dino Laurena said the historic partnership between the networks will give local fans the chance to watch the most important fight of Pacquiao's career.

Laurena said "Everybody has to have an opportunity to watch Manny Pacquiao lay his claim that he is better than Mayweather."

The fight will be telecast on free television on a slightly delayed basis.

Solar Sports will show the fight on cable television through pay-per-view with Cignal and Sky Cable as the official pay-per-

GMA-7 executive vice president Felipe Yalong speaking at the well-attended press event said “we owe it to the Filipino people” even as he pointed out that the network had agreed to the unprecedented multi network telecast “in deference to the request of Manny Pacquiao himself.”

Tieng who was the key figure in the often trying negotiations to get a deal done said “Everybody agreed to set aside all their differences to make sure that this will become the biggest event ever in Philippine television history.”

He classified it as “a win-win-win-win solution. I don’t know how many wins I should say.”

BoxingScene.com/Boxingmirror.com reported over a week ago that Solar Sports paid $10 million for the Philippine television and other ancillary rights.

That's sounds like some Pimp Pacquiao shit right there. I read it once so I may have missed "this" detail that I'm about to ask about but...how does, if at all, HBO, Showtime, TMT, Top Rank, Mayweather and Pacquiao figure into the additional PPV revenue generated from the foreign cable provider or did they (Solar Sports, Cignal and Sky Cable) just pay a lump some to the U.S. parties for the rights and this coalition of networks in the Philippines can rake in the profits without a percentage being payed out or back.

Here is a mind boggling number - The Review-Journal reports the live gate revenue will exceed $70 million. To put that in perspective, the all time highest gate was $20 million (Mayweather vs Canelo, followed by $18 million Oscar vs Floyd and $16.8 million Holyfield vs Lewis II). More than triple for this fight. Insane.

Mayweather-Pacquiao PPV Prices, Fee Split Resolved

By Edward Chaykovsky

According to the Wall Street Journal, a tentative agreement has been reached between HBO/Showtime and the pay-per-view distributers - with respect to the May 2nd mega-fight between welterweight champions Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.

HBO (representing Pacquiao) and Showtime (representing Mayweather) are coming together to stage the highly anticipated pay-per-view event.

Last week, Dow Jones Business News reported that HBO/Showtime requested a 70-30 split from the pay-television distributors. The paper says typically the split for a pay-per-view event between distributors and programmers is around 50-50.

The HBO/Showtime offer of 70-30 was quickly rejected by providers. During that time period, there was little movement from either side.

"Everybody at some point will hopefully be rational and we'll be able to put our heads together and come up with a good solution. We're not there yet," it was said last week by Michael Berman, executive vice president and general counsel of iN Demand, which negotiates on behalf of big cable operators including Comcast Corp. and Time Warner Cable Inc.

A little over a month before the fight, the two sides have come together. HBO/Showtime have reached an agreement with iN Demand - which negotiates on behalf of Comcast Corp., Time Warner Cable Inc. and other large cable companies, and with DirecTV, the nation’s largest satellite TV operator with more than 20 million subscribers.

The WSJ reports that Mayweather-Pacquiao will cost $99 for a high-definition feed and $89 for standard definition, according to sources with knowledge of the agreement.

The pay-per-view revenue split appears to be falling in the range of 60-40, with HBO/Showtime gaining the larger share.

The other distributors that HBO/Showtime has yet to reach agreements with are Dish Network and Vubiquity, which handles negotiations for AT&T Inc. and other distributors.

For me, no worries. Usually we order all fights at my mom's but if no one is gonna be there I'll just watch it live and free on Televisa in my mom's room. I prefer Azteca but they usually do an hour delay but maybe this one will be live as well

This fight is kind of a spit in the face to all the real boxing fans. Pay $100 to watch 2 out of prime fighters that should of fought 5 years try and pump up this fight like its the biggest fight of alltime which its indeed very far from. Mayweather losses at 38 i say big deal. Manny losses yet again when he was ko'd just like 2 years ago. This fight is for all the casual fans

Actually it would be rape if the cable providers would have got 60% of all this massive revenue. It's pretty insane to me that 60% is the norm, that's only 40% for HBO/SHO/Mayweather/Pacquiao/Top Rank/TMT/ and whoever else. 50/50 is a bit better.
Yeah but they offered the providers 70-30. That had to be HBO doing that and sho agreeing.

Even if it should have happened 5 years ago it's still the best fighters in the division fighting each other. Mayweather is P4P and arguably Manny is. So bascially #1 and #2 are going to be fighitng May 2nd.

It would be another story if there were better boxers to match up, but there isn't. sure they aren't as good as they once were but they are still the best there is. It's not their fault no one could surpass them.

Who do you want in there? Keith Thurman? Even he would get blown out.
