This is a common element in combat sports, even though you could win a fight on points somehow. I think of a fight like Narvaez vs. Donaire or even Arce vs. Donaire where those guys went in to the fight pretty much knowing they had no real shot at beating him.

Anyone ever fought in a situation like that where they pretty much knew they had no chance but fought anyways? In real life, it takes a certain mindset or maybe even stupidity to do this. I haven't done it personally, but have challenged people that I thought would destroy me in a fight but it was over something worth fighting for in those situations and luckily we never fought. Or in another stupid situation I challenged 5 guys to a fight over something stupid and luckily they didn't jump me (I'm an idiot).

This isn't a thread about how much of a badass you are, but I'm curious if other people have been in fights in this type of situation

No, I've never had that mindset whether it was on the streets, smoker or tournament. My dad raised us not to take shit from anyone, but to respect everyone. With 8 years of Brazilian jiu jitsu, wrestling, boxing, muay thai and MMA I don't fear anyone on the streets unless they have a gun. Me, my brother and all my homies either train or are low level pro MMA/muay thai fighters so we aint tripping off nobody.

I grew up in family that did nothing but martial arts and had two uncles who were pro boxers...so fighting is something i can remember since an early age...

but i have sparred with some unknown but pro boxers, some higher end mma fighters, and rolled with some mid level jiu-jitsu cats.

I thought I was gonna get my ass handed to me by the MMA cats but I did Pretty well.

I Thought I was gonna school a few Boxers and I got rocked pretty good but survived.

the jiujitsu cats I did alright. didnt get tapped or anything broke. but i didnt submit anyone or do any kinda of damage.

an ass kicking is just that. you heal and go on from there. if you live to fight another day,it's just another war story...

I credit God for me not getting stomped out a few times cause I probably deserved it for challenging more than one person to a fight at a time on multiple occasions though if you're the other guys, you probably gotta be thinking that the dude challenging multiple people to a fight at once is maybe a little crazy or strapped? I can't call it.

I've also backed down though to dudes that seemed to be a little crazy before and felt like a bitch afterwards. I'm at the point in life and have been for some time that I don't feel like just about anything is serious enough to fight over unless they're swinging punches at me or doing something to my kids. Even someone saying something negative to my kids immediately puts me in a different mode.

Side note to what I just said: I was at a Dodgers/Padres game in San Diego at the park in the park and some dude threw a baseball over the dudes head he was playing catch with and it one hopped and hit my son in the leg and he started crying because he wasn't even 2 years old yet. I immediately got pissed off and saw the guy who wanted his ball back and I was gonna launch that ball like 50 yards away over the fence, but I tried to throw it so hard that it angled down and didn't have any trajectory and blasted some 10 year old kid (or around that age) right in the stomach and he folded up. I thought he wasn't that hurt but he was crying so hard he was making no noise at all, I guess it knocked his wind out. I felt bad and was fully expecting that kids dad to choke me out but no one ever showed up and his friends were helping him so I just bounced lol It was hilarious as soon as I thought about it later but I felt bad

you dont use your "philly shell defense" and throw "Ron Lyle" Midnight freight trains?

I would assume you had this down pat by now?
thread starter is talking about "Real life" which I took as outside the ring or outside of a controlled environment. I know from experience anything goes in a street fight. There's no tapping out and shaking hands after. I've literally seen a man die before my eyes cuz he wanted to be macho and fight, despite knowing he stood no chance. Sometimes you gotta be smart and walk away.

^^ Always (try to) be smart and walk away.

After I learned more about the various martial arts things I know and boxing etc... I realized that I know enough to kill a man yet I have the confidence to know that 99% of confrontations are best to just walk away from. I'm a bitch? Fine. You say my mother is a whore? Okay. People aren't serious about something until they are literally attacking you and even then, use the minimum amount of force needed to get away. Using too much force seems to have a way of catching back up with you one way or another.

Yes.
I think it's just a matter of how to feel at the time.
I've beat people I thought I couldn't.
I've lost to people I thought I could take.

So to me it's just a matter of how much I care. I am there because I'm mad? Or am I simply defending myself over a stupid matter. Am I sparring? Am I currently bulking (cardio is shit, will lose if it isn't over in less than a minute).

There are just so many factors to it rather than if I thought I could beat them or not.
I came back to fight a bigger guy than me, after drinking and getting the courage (not smart) and I think we both just gave up. I had a bloody nose and he had a welted eye, sort of a draw but he probably got the better of me.

I don't know. I think I've just been in so any fights I can't really give a definite answer. Too many things to consider. I can confidently say I have never been "beat up" before. I got jumped once in Jr. High, but is was nothing.

one on one not realy unless dude is hella swole
This is actually a huge misconception in my point of view.
Being swole to me (5'9) is when I'm at 200, like right now. Winter bulk. I probably can't fight worth a dime. I mean if I connect great, it's a done deal. I'm slow, gas quick, etc. I feel my best at 170-175.

So when I see people who are buff, lifting, etc. it doesn't mean they can fight. It just makes them look stupid when they are on the ground.

Yeah, being swole means nothing. Some of those fools geek off of people backing down all the time but can't throw a punch to save their lives. If it was self defense, I'm taking someones knee out any ways so who cares how swole they are

ha! yeah you right on that one...being big and swole is only gonna count if they connect on you, they land a good one...other then that it doesnt help you fight...been in many fights where dudes were like that, lets just say i never lost a one on one yet
