Hahaha! That backfired big time, Because that bum clearly faked getting knocked out. He may have went down legit, but he wasn't KOd. He thought he was going to get a cheap DQ win.

Good shit by Dracula and the Nevada commission for having replay Because I thought for sure Vic was calling a DQ, as he had it wrong at first by thinking Rigo was holding his head when he landed the "KO" punch. But thankfully due to replay, he saw that wasn't the case and he let go of his head a punch or two before he landed the shot.

Now, of course that was after the bell but both guys were fighting, not just Rigondeaux, so that's why they are saying it was legal. It depends on the ref, but I've always assumed and preferred when refs do something similar - if both guys are still punching when the bell sounds, then that's fine, there is some leeway here. Some refs have a no tolerance policy it seems and I never liked that since guys are often in the heat of the moment or legit don't hear the bell.

Whatever the case, fantastic call. Dude was faking being KOd without question!

No way. No Contest is probably the correct call because it was an accidental foul that resulted in the stoppage of the fight before the 4th round. That is what the rule book says - if it happens before the 4th, it's a no contest. Absolutely no way that should have been a DQ because Flores was punching too, they were both fighting after the bell.

But I like the call because like I said, there is definitely some leeway when the round ends if both guys are still fighting, which they were. Flores pretended to get KOd which backfired. He knew he was going to lose anyway, it was obviously a huge mismatch and Flores was a very disappointing opponent for Rigondeaux, given the fact he sucks and all. No need for a pointless rematch which is what we would have got if it was a DQ or No Contest. Fuck all that. We shouldn't reward guys who fake getting hurt.

Ward obviously deserves tons of props but Kovalev looked like trash!!! Out if breath by the 4th round. Body shots killed him as the fight went on.
It honestly seemed like he came in with a mentality like he easily won the first fight and got robbed so he didn't have to change anything.

In the pre fight interview with Max he made a comment saying he overrated Ward the first time and over prepared for the fight.

Overtrained the first fight and didn't train at all this fight! Sounds like Kovalev just makes a lot of excuses!

I don't know man, Kovalev looked like trash from the opening bell to the KO (Herold Lederman is retarded for his scorecard lol) so I'm really disappointed in his performance tonight, he looked defeated so early on man, weird to see.

Like I said before, I don't think Ward was doing anything that dramatically different- a couple small wrinkles to his game, gave Kovalev a couple different looks, but it wasn't like he totally flipped his style; Kovalev should have been able to compete with that. Like you said, maybe he expected an easy fight for some crazy reason, but if so he's a moron. I think he had problems making 175 and it seems everyone other fight he's hiring new strength and conditioning coaches, new diets, etc. I don't think it's smart to drastically change your training methods before the biggest fight of your life.

I was also expecting that Kovalev would be a different fighter tonight (in a positive way) but alas all he did is embarrass himself. The stoppage was premature I thought. Yea, he was hurt, but boxers have gotten up from way worse. I also thought Kovalev had no game plan other than gassing himself out without landing any significant punch.

From the HBO commentary I was watching, it appears the Rigo decision will be reversed to DQ. I think it's such a harsh punishment if they go with that decision given the circumstances and the dude clearly faking getting knocked out.

I don't see how they can change it to DQ, No Contest at worst I can understand. The rules clearly state accidental foul bevo round 4 is a NC.

And yeah, Kovalev fight was stopped because he wasn't protecting himself at all. Should have taken a knee. A fighter who fought last night is brain dead, so that could also be on everyones minds right now too.

There was some miscommunication between one of the guys from Nevada State Athletic Commission and the HBO crew handling the replay. The official -who hasn't looked at the footage- claims that he was informed via phone that the punch came before the bell, which resulted in the initial KO decision. However, HBO then quickly retracted that statement and were eager to get an answer from the Nevada official in case the punch did in fact land after the bell and what consequences it may entail. According to him, it would be a DQ

IMO a NC would be fair obviously since the punch came literally like a second after the bell. It wasn't thrown with blatant intent to hurt the guy in an illegal manner.
