Jean Pascal vs. George Blades on September 28th in Montreal, Canada
August 30th, 2013 | Post Comment - No Comments

Pascal Blades Pascal vs. Blades jean pascal By Allan Fox: The ring rusty Jean Pascal (27-2-1, 16 KO’s) has decided to slip in what should be an easy tune-up fight against 39-year-old journeyman George Blades (23-4, 16 KO’s) in a scheduled 10 round bout on the undercard of the Adonis Stevenson vs. Tavoris Cloud card on September 28th at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Canada.

The Stevenson-Cloud, as good as it is, needed a decent co-feature bout to help attract interest from the Canadian boxing fans. While the Pascal-Blades fight is far from being a decent fight, Pascal’s name alone should be more than enough to attract a ton of Canadian fans to this event.

Pascal is already scheduled to face Lucian Bute on January 18th at the Bell Centre, but Pascal wanted to get a fight in before then to stay busy. Bute and Pascal were already supposed to have fought each other on May 25th, but Bute suffered a hand injury causing the fight to be postponed. Pascal has only fought once in the past 2 years, so it was important for him to get in another fight to keep the ring rust off.

Talking about rust, Blades has fought only 4 times in the past 6 years, and he’s lost 2 out of his last 4 fights. He did fight for a world title against WBO light heavyweight champion Zsolt Erdei in June 2007, and he was stopped in the 11th round of a one-sided fight.

Besides the mismatch between Pascal and Blades, the card will also have Canadian middleweight David Lemieux (29-2, 28 KO’s) facing journeyman Marcus Upshaw (15-10-2, 7 KO’s) in a scheduled 8 round fight. It’s unclear whether Lemieux’s promoter is trying to build him up for a future world title shot or if this how he’s going to be matched for the remainder of his career.

Lemieux has stepped up twice in his career against decent opposition against Marco Antonio Rubio and Joachim Alicine, and been beaten both times. Since then it’s been one easy fight after another for Lemieux with him knocking out four of his last opponents in 2 rounds or less.

There doesn’t seem to be any real improvement in his opposition, so it leaves one to guess whether his management will build him as an attraction as slaughterer of grade C opposition.

Robert Guerrero turns down Thurman fight; Wants Broner-Maidana winner

robert guerrero keith thurman adrien broner By Allan Fox: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (31-2-1, 18 KO’s) has reportedly turned down a fight against interim WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman (21-0, 19 KO’s) for November 2nd or 9th, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN.

Instead of facing Thurman, Guerrero wants to fight the winner of the November 9th pay-per-view fight between Adrien Broner and Marcos Maidana. It appears that that Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer may accommodate Guerrero, but he’ll have to wait until next year for the fight to happen.

Schaefer to Dan Rafael at ESPN “I felt Thurman against Guerrero would have been an interesting fight. But Guerrero and his team were not interested. I said ‘OK, but that wouldn’t be until next spring,’ and they said they would be OK with waiting.”

Instead of Thurman fighting Guerrero, Schaefer is now looking to match Thurman against Jesus Soto Karass. This is probably the best Soto Karass can hope for fight now, even though he looked good in stopping Andre Berto in the 12th round last July. Thurman is coming off of a 10th round TKO win over Diego Chaves last July in a fight where Thurman had to show a defensive side of his game by using movement.

It doesn’t look as if Golden Boy is in a hurry to try and match Thurman up against Adrien Broner. The fact that Schaefer is happy to match Guerrero up against the winner of the Broner vs. Maidana fight, gives the impression that he doesn’t want the less popular Thurman to face Broner. It’s not surprising if that’s the case, because Thurman would have too much size and power for the 5’7” Broner, and it might turn out to be a mismatch.

Guerrero seems to know his limitations too. He wouldn’t match up well with Thurman, and he’d likely get stopped or take a beating in losing a decision. Guerrero can afford to say no to a Thurman fight, because he just a big payday fight of $3 million in losing to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last May. With that kind of money, Guerrero can sit and wait for the fight that he wants instead of taking risky bouts like the Thurman fight.

Thats wack! Guerrero shouldnt get the winner of Broner/Maidana. He needs to earn that fight by beating someone. Maybe he could get the loser but not the winner. Why would the winner want to fight him lol. Got Em!!

assuming he beats Maidana his mandatory is Keith Thurman. Taking bets now Broner will drop down in weight and avoid One Time.

Calling any fighter on Guerrero's level a coward is just fuckin retarded if you ask me. I know everyone is bias when it comes to who they support in boxing, but c'mon...
We talk about people ducking this fighter and that fighter but usually they dont necessarily turn a fighter down. Its usually breakdown in negotiations etc....However Guerrero simply turned down fighting Thurman right on the spot and thats a coward move on his part. His is basically saying he is scared to fight him because he knows he will lose. Its simple as that. Got Em!!

Guerrero has been wanting broner though for some time now

The Thurman fight would be on November 2nd and Guerrero isn't fighting again this year from what I've gathered.
Its like yall keep making excuses for this dude. A lot of people want Mayweather and Broner because they are good paydays. Who cares what Guerrero wants! Why wont he fight again this year? Whats his excuse? Thurman wanted the fight and so did boxing fans and Guerrero flat out turned it down! People wanna say mayweather didnt want to fight Manny or that Broner doesnt want to fight this guy or that guy yet everyone wants to give Guerrero a pass and he blatantly turned down a fight haha. Yall killing me. Guerrero is probably gonna lose his next fight no matter who it is especially if its Broner or Maidana. Shit Ortiz would probably beat his ass lol. Got Em!!

He just fought the best Welterweight in the world and lost. "Duckers" are people who hold belts or #1 rankings and dodge challengers
Dude again everyone wants to fight Mayweather. He isnt a heavy puncher and he gives u your best pay day. Thurman would knock Guerrero out and he knows it and blatantly ducked the fight. If any of yall think otherwise yall are blind. Got Em!!

I wouldn't be surprised if the deal was a tremendously wack offer to face Thurman. He's only known to hardcore fans and that PPV likely won't sell very well. I had a feeling that Guerrero would only want to be in with a big name though after getting Mayweather money. I'd still like to see Guerrero vs. Ortiz though

I agree with CZAR @CZAR . Only real boxing fans knew who Guerrero was before the Mayweather fight, so now he thinks he's a houshold name. Thurman is someone that if Guerrero beats, then people will start talking about him vs Floyd again, maybe. This shouldn't be a PPV undercard but a Shobox main event, but Guerrero doesn't seem humble no more. Even if it was a wack offer, it's not like he's with Top Rank and will be promoted well anyways so really that's what he's got. Fighting Broner or maidana won't get him to Floyd again, but fighting Thurman can. Contract disputes are also reasons why fighters duck other fighters. Guerreros' performance after his last fight made me lose a lot of money, so now he needs to take his loss fuck that
