Say what you will about Kovalev, but the man is never afraid of talking shit and worried about political correctness lol. He's happy playing the role of the villain. His latest, after signing the rematch:
For the first fight, I really wanted Ward to win, and I thought he won it too. But Kovalev seems like he learned his lesson from the first fight and will make adjustments for the second fight. I hope he wins this one.

I actually thought kova was winning the first fight.

I thought that Jacobs was winning the ggg fight.

These fights were similiar to me, but I Guess I was fooled on both accounts.
I think they were different type of fights but similar in the sense that they were close fights though.

For me, i haven't been able to see a scenario where Jacobs won that fight, not with the knockdown going against him. I can't see how he could have won 7 rounds. I could see a draw at best for Jacobs. After watching it three times, I have Golovkin winning clear, but close. I think a lot of people gave Jacobs more credit than he deserved because he was doing better than expected, so any round where he landed a few shots a lot of people automatically scored it for Jacobs, despite perhaps Golovkin landing more efficient blows. I think Jacobs used a lot of movement and boxed well, but I don't think he put together 7 or 8 rounds that he did better than Golovkin.

For Kovalev-Ward, this was a tough one and I can see the argument for either guy. In this fight it's the opposite of Jacobs-Golovkin in that the winner got knocked down, not the loser like Jacobs, but again though, did Ward win 7 or 8 rounds? I don't think he did, I thought Kovalev edged it but it was less clear than GGG-Jacobs. I don't have a problem with Ward getting the nod since there were numerous rounds where Kovalev had seemed to go to sleep in the sense that he just coasted through the rounds, perhaps fatigue, and allowed Ward to steal a couple. On a second viewing I was looking for little things each guy did and Ward did a lot of subtle things in the second half of the fight that I didn't notice watching live, small things by moving Kovalev into a position or setting a little trap, veteran stuff that showed good ring generalship.

I'm not sure who's going to win the rematch. I feel like in order for Kovalev to get the win he's going to need to absolutely dominate or get a KO and I don't think that's going to happen, if it's close again the nod will almost certainly go to Ward. We'll see who's better at adjusting though since they both have 12 rounds of experience to go from. Kovalev needs to focus on stamina this training camp, if he can maintain effective aggression and not take his pedal off the gas he'll win. If not Ward will take advantage and steal rounds. He can hurt Ward but I wouldn't plan on that, I think that knockdown maybe hurt Kovalev in he sense that he was looking for a big shot for a couple rounds, hell maybe throughout the rest of the fight he kept thinking about how to reproduce it, we don't know what was going on in his head but I wonder what would have happened if he didn't score that KD early.

Did Kovalev cross the line? I see some fighters like Steve Cunningham and other black fighters saying Kovalev is straight up racist for this.

He posted a "pretend text conversation" between himself and Ward:

He's pretending to be Ward with Ward typing out stuff like "I'm gonna fuck you up hoe ass nigga" only for "Ward" to delete it and say something more appropriate. Was it just a silly joke? Or Crossed the line this time?

People pointing out he once tweeted a pic of himself pointing at a kid next to him with a picture of a gorilla on his shirt and saying this is Adonis Stevenson, people saying that was racist, which at the time he deleted and apologized, said he didn't realize people would take that as being racist, since in Russia calling people monkeys/apes is a normal insult and doesn't have racist background.

Of course social media is taking it all very serious as usual. I don't think it's much of a big deal but clearly for this joke he can't use the excuse that he didn't know people might think it's racist lol. I think he's openly trying to play the villain, maybe get under his skin too.

Its obvious someone from his camp did it. He liked it. he posted it. hes just trying to say how fake AW is, in his eyes, and just have fun with it. but there will always be controversy with someone that is not black using the "n"word

I have no problem with it. of course social media is knee deep in it already. it is a bit controversial tho seeing that the N word doesn't sit well with all the politics and police in America and being that kovalev is from Russia. on a side note Adonis does look like a gorilla lol.(not being racist, just honest.)

On top of this it turns out Kovalev or his team didn't even make this, some fan of his did and Kovalev tweeted it (or retweeted I'm not which). Fucking hell. People get worked up over anything. Steve Cunningham was going crazy for like three days on Facebook about how racist Kovalev is and whatnot and Kovalev/his team didn't even make the skit video.

You're right though, Stevenson does. Some people just resembles animals, like everyone thought Geroge Bush looked like a monkey with all those monkey faces he would make.

IMO, Mikey is probably the most hyped up boxer in boxing today along with GGG. They seriously don't want to challenge themselves and go for titles from champs that aren't even known. Mikey doesn't want to stay at 135 cuz Loma will follow him soon and is only willing to go up to 140 once Bud shows legit interest in 147. I don't think AB vs Mikey will happen but if so AB won't make weight and will probably quit just like JCC Jr and collect a check cuz he doesn't give a fuck anyways. AB is the highest paid loser in boxing.

Dan Rafael chat wrap 6/2:

- Broner vs. Garcia? Garcia.
- Thinks Garcia's power will be just fine going to 140, but doesn't believe it will be as strong as Maidana's.
- Can Broner make 140? Who knows, but hope he does. No one would be surprised if he didn't. JCC made 164.5, so there is hope.
- Hearing Barclay's really wants Broner-Garcia. Could also be in Vegas (regards to Mayweather Promotions having the MGM on hold for July 29).
- Broner's low punch output won't help vs. an accurate puncher like Garcia.
- Doesn't think the 140 lb limit affects Garcia at all, Broner is going to have to work hard to make it.
- Will the winner of Garcia vs. Broner fight Crawford next at 140? No.
- Gives Garcia vs. Pacquiao almost no chance of happening.
- Lomachenko vs. Salido isn't done yet, but likely to happen this summer. Arum wants it in LA or Chicago.
- Not sure if the rumors of Ward's team trying to sign JDJ are true. Maybe it is something to try to boost buzz, because the fight has absolutely none, which is a shame since it is a good fight.
- 24/7 for Ward vs. Kovalev debuts tonight.
- Believes the PVP sells about the same as the last one: 165k.
- Spence is a top talent, but not a star. He can become a star, but is not one yet. He is relatively unknown and his Showtime numbers were less than 300k.
- Spence said he thinks his next fight likely will be against Thurman, Peterson, or Porter.
- Likely Spence returns November on Showtime. Would like to see him back earlier so he could get in 2 more fights this year.
- Crawford and Spence are on different paths right now. Could they fight one day, sure, but doubtful in the immediate future.
- Doesn't want to criticize Brook because he was done and he knew it. A lot of fighters quit and just try to survive, Brook kept fighting hard until he knew he was done with a legitimate injury.
- McGregor vs. Mayweather would outsell Canelo vs. GGG PPV's.
- Believes McGregor vs. Mayweather will happen.
- Brook should take a long break and when he comes back should return at 154. What about Brook vs. Cotto?
- Would not be surprised to see Cotto fight beyond 2017. He talked about it the last time he talked to him.
- A Cotto vs. Canelo fight after GGG is not guaranteed, but certainly a possibility.
- The IBF is considering ordering a rematch between Dirrell and Uzcategui.
- Has hung out with Dirrell's uncle and he was a nice guy. He just happened to do something shameful that hurt his reputation and is going to cost him some jail time and money.
- Mike Perez at CW? Serious doubts he can be successful. Will believe it when he sees it.
- Still talks going on to make the rematch between Chocolatito and Sor.
- Top Rank has pulled its UniMas cards (which always lost money) and is going to put them on a new platform they are announcing - it is big. This platform will handle Pacquiao vs. Horn (not on PPV), Crawford-Indongo, and Lomachenko-Salido.
- They are expecting 55k for Pacquiao vs. Horn.
- Loves Roach, but anything he says about training camp should be taken with a grain of salt (in regards to Pacquiao having a shoulder injury making him look poor).
- Told that Hurd vs. Trout has been agreed to, but no date determined yet.
- The CW tournament is exciting. It is an excellent division that needs exposure.
- The Schaefer tournaments likely to be on Showtime, according to Showtime.
- Quit asking about the return of Nicholas Walters.
- Dulorme vs. Ugas was cancelled due to an injury with Dulorme. Hopes they reschedule because he was interested in the fight.
- Alvarado looked pretty good and in shape last week. If he keeps it up he will probably get a good fight on TR's new series.
- If/when Crawford and Indongo fight, not sure if the IBF belt will be up for grabs.
- Believes Crawford fights Indongo at 140 and moves up to 147 and takes a fall fight.
- Is Indongo ready to fight Crawford, his record isn't deserving yet? Who cares, he has the belts, he is undefeated, and it is an interesting match.
- No US TV yet for BJS vs. Khurtsidze.
- Most powerful puncher at 147? Maybe Thurman.
- Nothing yet for Gervonta Davis. Would like to see him fight Farmer at home. Could be any number of guys.
- Would be surprised if the TBD date of PBC's on NBC in September happens.
- Would love Jacobs vs. Lemieux, but doubting it happens.
- Nothing on Postol.
- Williams vs. Lara was a terrible decision, but don't think it affected Lara's career much. He still won a world title and never would have been much of a draw.
- Worse decision: Ward-Kovalev 1, or Haglear-SRL? Ward-Kovalev.
- Hasn't been a fight at the Prudential Center in a long time, imagines Shakur Stevenson will fight there eventually.
- How is Stiverne a mandatory in 2017? The WBC has been really good lately, but that one is bad.
- Fonfara has a chance vs. Stevenson. He dropped Stevenson last time and fought with heart.
- Prograis is on the verge of becoming a serious contender. His biggest drawback is inactivity.
- Thoughts on Briggs blaming asthma medication for his failed test? He is a liar. He knows that if he takes medication he has to disclose it to VADA and get an exception.
- Not sure what is going on with Frankie Gomez, but GB has said he hasn't been in the gym in months. The amount of money GB has wasted on him is obscene.
- Spence vs. Khan? Spence would drill him.
- If Lundy wins tonight, he probably still needs to do a bit more to secure a big fight.
- Still interested in Brook vs. Khan. It really is the only fight that makes sense for both guys next.
- Greatest round ever? Round 10 of Corrales-Castillo and round 1 of Hagler-Hearns.
- The final round of JDJ vs. Castro was a great one. Toney-Jirov round 12.
- Wilder and Parker have talked, but with both of them having mandatories it seems unlikely that fight is next.
- First name you think of when you hear "wasted talent"? Francisco Bojado.
- Tony Yoka debuts tonight. He won a HW gold medal, that means he is supposed win a HW title one day.
- How would ODH have fared during the SRL, Hagler, Hearns, Duran era? Nothing against DLH, he was a tremendous fighter, but doubt he wins any of those fights.
- When he saw Michael Grant in the week leading up to the Lewis fight he was a nervous petrified wreck. Gave him no chance to win the fight.
- PBC could survive in some fashion, but it will be nothing compared to what they initially promised. A lot of money has been wasted, a lot of fighter inactivity, and no real stars have been created.
