David Itskowitch, who helped launch the boxing division of Jay Z's Roc Nation Sports almost two years ago, resigned as the company's chief operating officer on Thursday.

Itskowitch was the first person hired by the fledgling promoter when it got into the boxing business in August 2014. Under his watch, Roc Nation Sports has put on a handful of cards, signed two of boxing's biggest names in undefeated former super middleweight world champion Andre Ward and former four-division world titleholder Miguel Cotto, and promoted the second-biggest pay-per-view card of 2015, Cotto's middleweight world title loss to Canelo Alvarez in November. That fight, which Roc Nation Sports co-promoted with Golden Boy Promotions, generated about 900,000 buys. Only the record-breaking Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao spectacle did more business.

Itskowitch did not give a reason for his resignation but said the parting was amicable.

"I'm appreciative of the opportunity that Roc Nation Sports gave me to build their boxing division," Itskowitch told ESPN.com. "I value the relationships that I formed while I was with the company, and I am extremely proud of all that we accomplished in two years. I'm looking forward to new challenges in my career."

Itskowitch, 41, said he was unsure if he would remain involved in the boxing business; it is the business he has been in for most of his adult life.

From 1996 to 2000, Itskowitch, of New York, worked at HBO as the right-hand man for then-senior vice president Lou DiBella, who was responsible for programming the network's fights. When DiBella left HBO to found his own promotional company, Itskowitch went with him, working for DiBella Entertainment from 2000 to 2006.

Itskowitch then joined Golden Boy Promotions as its COO, working for Oscar De La Hoya's company from 2007 until resigning in 2013 to take a break from the sport.

Roc Nation Sports plans to fill the COO position but probably not until after Ward's fight against Alexander Brand on Aug. 6. "Roc Nation is thankful for the efforts and contributions Dave Itskowitch made to Roc Nation Sports, but at this time, we have decided to part ways," Michael Yormark told ESPN.com. He is the president and chief of branding and strategy for parent company Roc Nation. "We wish him the best of luck in the future."

A month after the IBF ordered lightweight contenders Richard Commey (24-0, 22 KOs) and Robert Easter Jr. (17-0, 14 KOs) to meet for its vacant world title, the sides have been unable to make a deal. So, on Thursday the sanctioning body ordered a purse bid for July 19 at IBF headquarters in Springfield, New Jersey, to determine who will have promotional rights to the bout and how much money the fighters will earn. Commey, 29, of Ghana, and Easter, 25, of Toledo, Ohio -- both of whom have knocked out their past five opponents -- will be meeting for the 135-pound belt vacated by Rances Barthelemy, who moved up in weight.

Notes: Commey-Easter lightweight title bout headed to purse bid

this is gonna be awesome. 9/17/16

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZn8dTB9BjE

Krzysztof Glowacki - 26-0
Coming off wins of Steve Cunningham and awesome KO of Marco Huck

Oleksandr Usyk - 9-0
Coming off Pedro Rodriguez win. Won Gold in Summer 2012 Olympics, great amateur career

Such a dope fight. Cruisers don't get much love but one thing about them is top cruiserweights are always fighting each other. I don't think there's another division in boxing that consistently has top 10 guys going at each other like they do.

GGG keeps getting exposed for being the biggest fraud in the middleweight division. I was completely against the Canelo Khan fight. So please, tell me what you think of this fight and GGG now?

It's a bad fight. Answer me this, how many middleweights declined/avoided a fight with Canelo before he settled on Khan just to get a fight in?

I never disagreed with you or Sixx on that issue. My issue with GGG is that he doesn't want to challenge himself as a fighter. Canelo has done that already. Now it's time for GGG to do the same. The worst part about this fight is that it's not even a catchweight! This is super scary!

He tried to fight Canelo, Saunders, Jacobs and then Eubank before finally settling on Brook. Eddie Hearn promotes both Eubank & Brook, so when the Eubanks started asking for more money after Golovkin signed his side of the deal, Brook came in willing & able to sign immediately and Hearn closed the deal.

From a boxing point of view, it's a mismatch. Pointless fight. Let's remember this comes after Canelo/Saunders/Jacobs & now Eubank all turned him down. So it was either this, or fight some random middleweight bum no one has ever heard of like Dominic Wade. I'm guessing K2 knew they couldn't afford to do that.

I don't like this fight for Golvokin though but I understand why K2 took it.

I don't understand your argument then. He can't challenge himself as a fighter if people don't want to share the ring with him.

Don't get me wrong I hate this fight. Wish he would've signed on to at least fight a 154lber, but you can't say out of one side of your mouth that GGG doesn't want to challenge himself and then say you agree that people don't want to fight.

If Saunders would've been willing to fight him, I'd have no doubt that GGG would've fought Saunders over Brook. Same with Jacobs, Canelo, Eubank Jr. etc. He's trying to fight top MW's and they don't want to fight him. So his options become fight a lesser/smaller fighter that's willing to take the risk/reward that comes with fighting GGG or remain inactive until you can secure a legitimate fight and the latter is just not reasonable.

Plus k2 was already working with Eddie Hearn. Hearn has said he gave Eubank a deadline, that he set up everything the way Eubank wanted and then Eubank demanded more money and Eubank Sr wanted the entire PPV system to be structured differently which isn't possible. Hearn gave the same type of deal he gives to Carl Froch, Anthony Joshua, etc but Eubank wouldn't budge and wouldn't sign. So after the deadline, Hearn told K2 they could get golovkin Kell Brook instead and they agreed to terms.

Eubank was there last option so I understand why K2 took it. If they abandoned this, then they'd have to go shopping for more opponents after being turned down by four different fighters.

Eubank's own promoter is saying it was all on Eubank and Golovkin signed his end of the deal long ago. Eubank turned down a rematch with Saunders, then Jacobs and now Golovkin. Big pattern is starting to emerge (that Eubank Sr is delusional and he's messing up his sons career):

Hearn: Eubanks Made The Gennady Golovkin Deal IMPOSSIBLE!

"I was negotiating for three weeks on that fight and negotiating with Chris Eubank Sr. made it seem like three years. We got into a position where everybody was ready to sign, he was offered the same pay-per-view structure as Anthony Joshua, Carl Froch and the one Kell Brook accepted - but unfortunately they made the deal impossible," Hearn told Sky Sports. "There were certain things they wanted that made it was just a complete no-go. They had deadline and they chose not to take the fight. There is a huge future for Chris Eubank Jr. He could fight the winner maybe later on in the year. He has a huge future, he misses out this time but I'm sure he'll get his shot in due course." - See more at: Hearn: Eubanks Made The Gennady Golovkin Deal IMPOSSIBLE! - Boxing News
