His Mexican card should be revoked. Can't claim he's a warrior. There is absolutely no reason to vacate unless he has no intention of fighting. They can fight at 157/158 for the title, hell he fought Khan at 155. Bitch made.

Canelo Vacates WBC Title! Says Golovkin Talks Continue

LOS ANGELES - Ring Magazine and Lineal Middleweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez today issued the following statement:

"After much consideration, today, I instructed my team at Golden Boy Promotions to continue negotiating a fight with Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin and to finalize a deal as quickly as possible. I also informed the WBC that I will vacate its title.

"For the entirety of my career, I have taken the fights that no one wanted because I fear no man. Never has that been more true than today. I will fight 'GGG,' and I will beat 'GGG' but I will not be forced into the ring by artificial deadlines.

canelo-alvarez (9)_7

"I am hopeful that by putting aside this ticking clock, the two teams can now negotiate this fight, and 'GGG' and I can get in the ring as soon as possible and give the fans the fight they want to see."

Golden Boy Promotions Chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya today issued the following statement:

"There is no denying that Canelo is the biggest star in the sport of boxing. He is eager to get in the ring with 'GGG' to show the world that he is also the best pound for pound fighter in the sport, but we won't negotiate under a forced deadline.

"Now that the WBC title is off the table, I am hopeful that 'GGG' and his promoter K2 Promotions will come to the table in good faith and get this deal done."

I can only hope that maybe they just don't want to pay the sanctioning fees, and they don't want to involve the wbc in their negotiations. --the fight still gets made.

this seems impossible that they'll actually duck ggg. Golden boy is playing with fire though
Has nothing to with sanctioning fees. He paid more sanctioning fees against Khan and Cotto for sure.

At best, this is his way to force the fight at 155 pounds. Since Canelo no longer has the belt, GGG is no longer mandatory meaning they can fight on Canelo's terms. But they already know Golovkin isn't going to boil down to 155 and Golden Boy/Canelo will claim, "hey, we offered the fight at 155 and he didn't take it, we tried". Then proceed to call Timothy Bradley or whatever welterweight is willing the move up, maybe Kell Brook so he can try to out shine Khan.

This is the most blatant duck since Bowe dropped his title in the garbage so he wouldn't have to fight Lennox Lewis, but at least then it was so Bowe could fight Holyfield again, who obviously was no pushover himself. This is just, here, take my belt and my pride, peace.

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. Abel Sanchez actually came out a while back saying that if Canelo drops the title, then they can talk catchweight. Canelo's resume is way better than GGG, and Canelo did whatever it took to make the fights happen. He did it for the sport. GGG just fought an Al Haymon bum when he could have fought Erislandy Lara. But he would rather fight another bum Canelo has paid his dues, GGG hasn't. Peace

Fuck off already with your Canelo dickriding. Funny Cotto was labeled a ducker and he fought just about everyone who was a contender to the champs. Canelo still hasnt really proved shit. Hes the one that should be fighting Lara again since he got a gift decision and to much of a pussy to fight true 160 lb fighters even though hes basically the size of a middleweight. Hes truly a coward just fighting smaller fighters

Ggg easily beats everyone on canelos resume. He's 4-1 favored over Canelo by the public already and the fight isn't even signed. Canelo can't even wish his mom a happy Mother's Day without hearing ggg's name. And Really you can just add cotto, Martinez, and sturm to ggg resume cuz they refused to even contest him. Dues paid.

If ggg is really nothing special, then expose him in the ring. Show the public what it looks like when he's in with a non-"bum".

The "who did he fight argument" loses all weight when people are paying him and vacating titles to not have to deal with him. He obviously can't fight people that show no interest in fighting him.

And he couldn't have fought Lara instead of the random "Al Haymon bum" because then he'd have lost his IBF title, because that's how mandatories work as Canelo knows.

Hopefully he's able to get in the ring with Jacobs since the WBA said they wouldn't enforce the mandatory if the Canelo fight could be made, but we know that's absolutely not happening now.

On a brighter note,

Guillermo Rigondeaux, stripped of his two junior featherweight world titles late last year, has been given one of them back.

"We're pleased that the WBA has reinstated Guillermo as their (junior featherweight) world champion," Roc Nation Boxing COO David Itskowitch told ESPN.com. "He's the best fighter in the division, as well as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, and should be recognized as such."

Rigondeaux unified two 122-pound titles in a career-best win, a decision against Nonito Donaire, in April 2013. He defended the unified belts three times but was stripped by the WBO in late October because of inactivity. A week later, he was relieved of his WBA belt for the same reason but named a "champion in recess."

Rigondeaux (16-0, 10 KOs), a 35-year-old southpaw who won gold medals for Cuba in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics before defecting and settling in Miami, Florida, eventually signed with promoter Roc Nation Sports. The company immediately scheduled him for a Nov. 21 fight on the Canelo Alvarez-Miguel Cotto undercard in Las Vegas, where Rigondeaux won a virtual shutout decision against Drian Francisco.

Rigondeaux was the mandatory challenger for Carl Frampton, who unified belts against Scott Quigg in February. Rather than face Rigondeaux in a mandatory defense, he elected to move up to featherweight and challenge world titleholder Leo Santa Cruz on July 30, and he was stripped.

As a result, the WBA reinstated Rigondeaux and ordered him to face interim titleholder Moises Flores (24-0, 17 KOs), of Mexico, in a mandatory fight by Aug. 1.

"If either Flores or Rigondeaux wish to face any other opponent, the WBA may consider an application for a special permit consistent with WBA rules," the WBA wrote in its ruling.

Both are planning to take interim bouts. Flores is slated to face former bantamweight world titleholder Paulus Ambunda (24-1, 10 KOs) on June 11 in Ambunda's hometown of Windhoek, Namibia. According to the WBA, Roc Nation Sports is in talks with Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn about a possible fight for Rigondeaux against bantamweight world titleholder Jamie McDonnell (28-2-1, 13 KOs), of England, who would move up in weight if they make a deal.

I love all those fights, Flores Vs. Ambunda and Rigondeaux Vs. McDonnell with the winners fighting each other.

It's amazing someone would actually try to pull the resume card here as an excuse lol

Not only has Golovkin been ducked repeatedly (this is now two belts he's won on pure intimidation alone), the flip side is Canelo being so famous because of his white skin and red hair has given him all the opportunities that Golovkin never had. Canelo got the big fights, he got the easy titles (Matt Hatton lol), he's had the judges in his back pocket while forcing opponents into a fake weight class, he's always had everything on his side so of course he has a better fucking resume. It's one thing fighting the Trouts and Lara's of the world, it's another thing entirely getting in the ring with a guy who will hurt you and likely put you to sleep.

I'm going to treat that fight like every other big fight that I don't think is getting made. I'm hoping GGG/Jacobs is next, then whoever wins throws a grip at Saunders for a full unification of the division.

The WBA can make this mandatory whenever they feel like it. They said the aren't going to get in the way of Golovkin Canelo but now let's see.

I think he'll have better luck getting Saunders. Jacobs talks about a really high purse to fight Golovkin and I doubt HBO can pay it without it being on PPV and this isn't a ppv fight. Saunders likewise has a high price tag but they may be able to pull that off in the UK.

Wildcard is Eubank jr, who today/yesterday is saying he wants Golovkin next. Hearn says he's in contact with K2 about an October clash but he lies more than Satan himself so who knows.

GGG and K2 decided for 3 or four straight fights to accept step aside money. They didn't have to. Now, the real issue with fighters like Cotto and Canelo is the WBC. They allowed big money fighters to get away with so much and now they want to collect so much money and :force" these fighters to fight. I keep telling you guys, this is a business. Even for GGG, its a business. If no Canelo fight occurs, where will his next big payday come from? You know damn well he will have to move up in weight class and he still won't because the very second he looses the hype trtain is gone.

The resume is not just about who fought who. GGG's first HBO fight was vs a smaller guy and everyone, including myself, hopped on the train. But look at what Canelo has done at his age, who he's beaten, and what he's done for the sport of boxing. The only small fighters that he fought were Josesito Lopez and Khan. But, everyone else was his size. Even if it was 155, those fighters were at 154. He gave them the lb that they preferred too. And for Floyd, he took that catchweight and he did it for money and the sport. GGG hasn't done much but accept step aside money, collect $2 mill for fighting bums, and still can't bring in the money Canelo brings because everyone deep inside knows the truth.

What?! His HBO debut was against #9 ranked middleweight Proksa. This was after Dmitry Pirog pulled out due to injury.

You're retarded. Matthew Hatton, Lopez and Khan were all welterweights. He was set to fight Angulo at 154, failed to make weight and paid him $100k. Lara, and his 155 pound fights are in his advantage since he can't make 154 anymore (see Angulo).

Meanwhile, since GGGs HBO debut in 2012, he's fought more top ten opponents in his division than anyone else on boxing in the same time frame. Sure, he hasn't got the big names, but he's consistently fought top ten, i.e clean out the division like you're supposed to do. Can't fault GGG for guys ducking him. You and I both know his resume would be a hell of a lot better if dudes would actually fight him (Sturm, Martinez, Chavez, Cotto, Canelo, Froch all rejected them, and with Quillin and others).
