Never in my life have I understood why people that don't have any financial investments in a fighter's career care so much about how much money he can make vs one fighter or vs another.

I don't like watching guys getting dicked around so I'll complain about that, but when we're talking about the kind of money that Golovkin/Canelo/Cotto/Ward/Kovalev etc are making I really just want to see the fights.

It's the reason I never really cared to pay attention to the ridiculous Mayweather/Pacquiao soap opera. They both make boatloads of money and I'm not getting any of it. I just wanted to see them fight.
There are some people on here that care so much about sales. Especially the guys that ride Floyd Mayweathers cock n balls. I'm just kidding. Not really. Yeah I guess I'm kind of kidding but not that much. Maybe just a little bit.

Boxing continues to be the theater of the of the unknown.

It’s fight week for WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and challenger Canelo Alvarez as the two are set to tangle for the title at Mandalay Bay Saturday night. One small problem, Miguel Cotto is no longer the champion. In a surprising move on Tuesday, the WBC has opted to strip Cotto of the belt but if Canelo wins the fight, he will become the WBC middleweight champion. With regards to the stripping, the WBC released the following statement: DSC_0093

The World Boxing Council worked tirelessly through a process that began over two years ago to secure the celebration of the highly anticipated fight between Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. The WBC is proud of that accomplishment that is giving boxing fans around the world a very important fight to see.
After several weeks of communications, countless attempts and good faith time extensions trying to preserve the fight as a WBC World Championship, Miguel Cotto and his promotion did not agree to comply with the WBC Rules & Regulations, while Saúl Alvarez has agreed to do so. Accordingly, the WBC must rule on the matter prior to the fight.

The WBC hereby announces that effective immediately has withdrawn recognition of Miguel Cotto as WBC World Middleweight Champion. If Saul “Canelo” Alvarez wins the fight against Cotto, he will be recognized as the WBC middleweight world champion.

The WBC’s decision is premised on the fact that Miguel Cotto and his camp are not willing to abide by the governing WBC Rules & Regulations, and the specific conditions the WBC established to sanction the fight. Simply put: they are not willing to respect the very same rules and conditions which applied to Cotto becoming WBC champion. The WBC wishes Miguel Cotto the best of luck as we truly regret the course of action which led to them taking such decision.

The WBC is a non-profit governing organization founded 53 years ago. The WBC has implemented all of the current rules in the sport, paving the way to much safer boxing. The WBC creates, implements and enforces, its Rules & Regulations to bring safety, order, unity, justice and equality to a sport that was marred with abuse and unfairness. Since the first day of existence of our organization, the WBC has taken countless actions for the protection of the boxer and it is a fact that most if not all boxers dream of conquering the green belt.

The WBC stands by its honorability and will not participate in the abuse of power and greediness, which has taken our boxing world to regrettable actions from different parties. The WBC wishes the promotion great success and we are satisfied that this great fight for boxing will be enjoyed by millions of fans around the world.

While not specifying exactly what rule Cotto violated, the rumor mill is buzzing with allegations that the Puerto Rican champion didn’t pay sanctioning fees.

I'm seeing the fee was 300k.
"The WBC is a Non-profit organization" lmao yeah sure so is the Catholic Church.

I think this was a calculated move by Cotto. He'll have NO OBLIGATION to fight Golovkin should he win now. Canelo probably calling Oscar on his cell to do the same right now! "Oscar, Oscar! Don't pay the sanctioning fee, whatever you do!"

This means if Cotto wins, the WBC belt will be vacant and the WBC will simply elevate GGGs title status from interim champion to full champion. Which would be a pretty fucking lame way to accomplish a unification, plus, Cotto would still be lineal champion so it would be the same fucking scenario essentially.

But we all knew something like this was gonna happen. Canelo even said that Cotto only used this title for the negotiating table. Win or lose vs Martinez, Canelo still wanted Cotto. The fans still wanted Cotto. Now the question I have is what will happen if Cotto wins? I believe it will be Mayweather vs Cotto for the "Emeritus" title.

lol that's not a title you can actually fight for. It's typically, and rarely, given to retired champions or champions that have to leave boxing for a while and just means that if they ever want to come out of retirement then they are automatically the mandatory challenger to the title, which in this case would be Golovkin. It was literally something the WBC invented for Mike Tyson when he went to prison, a sneaky way they could get him a title shot quickly without having to climb back up the rankings once he got out of prison. Vitali Klitschko also had it and besides now Mayweather maybe few others, pretty sure Lennox Lewis.

It's actually about a million. But about $800k was to go to Golovkin as part of the step aside money that allowed the Canelo fight to happen in the first place. Cotto's people contacted Golovkin after Geale and ASKED for permission, and negotiated the step aside money with the WBC's involvement. So it all seems like some lawyer shit from Roc Nation, a way to delay the mandatory, get Canelo, use the belt as leverage and in the end not pay anything. Well played on their part but the whole thing feels shady as fuck.

Team Guerrero was not to thrilled about fighting DSG. They had other plans (not get used up). But money talks. The fight is back on. #boxing
