“GGG is now clearly the ‘A’ side yet Ward still would want to dictate terms, which makes no sense,” Loeffler said. “GGG would fight Ward on a 50-50 basis, the best 160-pounder versus the best 168-pounder [at] 164 [and] a 50-50 split on all proceeds. But it seems like Ward needs more tuneup fights.”

this Errol Spence hype is damn near on the level of the ggg hype right now
Nope. I don't even think Spence has fought a top five ranked fighter in his division but GGG has. I don't think Spence has over 300 amateur wins or any medals. I also don't think he has 20 fights and I don't think he has any titles. I also don't think he has anywhere close to the fanbase GGG has. He's solid but if anyone is need of proving themselves it's Spence. But GGG is being ducked so much it's put a sad stain on boxing. Oh yeah, last I heard Spence never headlined a card.

If GGG is the A side then Ward is the A+ side. Truthfully they both need eachother. No other big fight options for either except Froch who runs his mouth more then anything. I understand Ward was on quite the layoff but doesnt change the fact hes proved hes the best out there, GGG not so much

Pound for Pound Ratings by Ring Magazine

I don't see Ward's name on the list. One man is fighting everyone who is available and being ducked. The other guy, in the meanwhile, can't even fill seats, fights once every blue moon and is doing too much talking.

I wouldn't take Tom Loeffler's comment as the end all, I do believe its negotiations. That is the first offer, of course Ward can counter that and they can meet in the middle. I've seen promoters say stuff like that a thousand times and end up agreeing to something totally different. Especially when they say 50/50, that usually always means they'll take less because if they truly believed Golovkin was A side, he'd straight out say 60/40.

Now, there is something to be said about the fact Golovkin would be the one moving up in weight however. They could feel that hey, if you want us to move up out of our own weight class, you better make it worth while ($$$). Like with Froch, it would have been a very big payday. For Ward, not so much.

HAYMON: GOLDEN BOY CAN'T SUE ME; I HAVE A RELEASE!
By Scott Shaffer

Boxing's most powerful manager/advisor, Al Haymon, issued his first response to a $300 million lawsuit by Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions. Haymon claims that Golden Boy gave him a release of all claims last year and therefore no longer has a valid case. Haymon told the California federal court that an arbitrator is poised to decide whether the release covers the current dispute, so the court should stay the litigation until the arbitrator rules. Golden Boy apparently issued the release to Haymon and his companies as part of a deal reached after the departure of Richard Schaefer from Golden Boy. Schaefer ran Golden Boy for years along with De La Hoya. The Schaefer settlement agreement, to which Haymon was a party, contains an arbitration clause, and Haymon brought the latest issue before the arbitrator in April. Golden Boy filed suit in May. The arbitrator, according to Haymon's court filing, will hold a hearing on July 29th to determine whether the release bars Golden Boy's current claims.

Haymon's court filings included a copy of the release, but it was heavily redacted with only a few paragraphs left legible. Golden Boy is known to have accepted a multi-million dollar payment in order to release certain claims against Schaefer and Haymon, and Haymon's filing shows that Golden Boy released him from all claims "through the date of execution of this Agreement, including but not limited to any of the matters alleged in the [2014] arbitration filed by Golden Boy." The date of the Agreement is December 19, 2014.

In May, Haymon, his boxing-related companies and an investment firm backing Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions venture were all named in GOlden Boy's $300 million federal lawsuit. The lawsuit alleges that Haymon and his companies violated antitrust laws and the Muhammad Ali Act. Bernard Hopkins, a Golden Boy partner, is also listed as a plaintiff.

The case was filed in Los Angeles and assigned to Judge Dean D. Pregerson. On July 6th, as described above, Haymon asked Judge Pregerson to delay the case while an arbitrator decides if Golden Boy has any claim at all.

On July 1st, the other major American boxing promoter, Top Rank, Inc. sued the same Haymon-related entities also alleging violations of the Ali Act, antitrust law and California's unfair competition act. Top Rank is headed by Bob Arum, who has a deep, personal rivalry with Haymon dating back to when Haymon bought out Floyd Mayweather's contract from Top Rank.

Top Rank's lawsuit alleges that "Haymon is rigging the boxing industry so they can act as manager, promoter, sponsor and ticket broker for nearly every major professional boxer competing in the United States, all in violation of the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act, the Sherman Act and a host of other state and federal laws." It is unlikely that Top Rank issued any kind of a release to Haymon that could apply to Top Rank's lawsuit.

The Muhammad Ali Act generally forbids a person from acting as both a manager and a promoter. However, it was enacted to protect boxers against promoters, not to protect promoters from promoters.

But there is more to both lawsuits than Muhammad Ali Act claims. The Sherman Act is an antitrust statute. Top Rank's suit further complains that, "In order to stifle legitimate promoters from competing against [Haymon's company, Premiere Boxing Champions] has obtained exclusivity commitments from broadcasters" that keep his competitors off the airwaves." Thus far, Haymon has concluded time-buying deals-- where the networks get paid to air fights rather than the traditional arrangement of having the networks pay the promoters to produce the fights-- with NBC, CBS, ESPN, Spike, Bounce and most recently, Fox.

Shortly after the Top Rank suit was filed, the law firm hired by Haymon, Kramer Levin Naftalis and Frankel, issued the following statement, and published it on the website of Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions: "On behalf of our clients Alan Haymon, Haymon Boxing LLC, Haymon Sports LLC and Haymon Holdings LLC: The lawsuit filed today by Bob Arum and Top Rank is entirely without merit and is a cynical attempt by boxing’s old guard to use the courts to undermine the accessibility, credibility and exposure of boxing that the sport so desperately needs. The Premier Boxing Champions series makes boxing free again, by bringing championship boxing to free TV, with a fighter-first promise and a commitment to the fans to restore boxing to the luster of its heyday. The continued success of this effort will far outlast this baseless lawsuit."

Just before the Golden Boy suit was filed, the Association of Boxing Commissioners asked the United States Attorney General to investigate Haymon's practices. The Attorney General has not issued a public response.

Now let's be real here, who is stopping these fights from happening? He just named 3 fighters from 3 different promotions. If anything, Jr's stock dropped bigtime ever since signing to him. Fighters like him, Thurman, Lara, Quillin will be used as examples of potential big fights that could have made big money and fell apart because of Haymon. And once networks get involved they will all back away because they just don't want to be a part of all this mess. And ticket sales are also very low because the promoters don't even get a chance to promote the fights the way they want to and they will also back away.

Dan Rafael chat wrap 7/10:

- Canelo vs. Cotto will probably be officially announced next week.
- Mosley probably beats Mayorga easily, if the fight actually goes off. Shane said they are going to sell it as a PPV.
- Wlad is in another class and should stop Fury.
- Fury will try and make it a fight, unlike Haye.
- Price for LSC-Mares tickets are outstanding, start at $25.
- Hearn is still DeGale's promoter, but by signing with PBC it gives DeGale more US opportunities and quality opponents.
- Buy or Sell Floyd fights 9/12 on CBS? Sell.
- Crawford's next fight will be in Omaha.
- LSC vs. Mares could be a classic fight in the vein of Vazquez vs. Marquez.
- LSC vs. Mares is a 50/50 fight.
- Carl Froch is very sensitive towards people's comments.
- Take on GGG offering 50-50 and 164 lb catchweight for Ward? That is where negotiating would begin, surprised that GGG's team started by offering 50-50.
- Quillin will fight 9/6 on CBS, no opponent yet.
- The WBO didn't do anything funny with Floyd and his belt. They gave him two months to make a decision and had Floyd chosen to keep the belt they would have been happy to have him as champion.
- Collaza is a good dude, but he should get rolled by Thurman.
- Juan Diaz is recovering for rotator cuff surgery.
- The longer Brook vs. Rios lingers in negotiations the less he thinks it happens. TR is looking at other options for Rios. Not overly confident Brook-Rios gets made.
- Jermain Taylor was the last fighter to fully unify a division.
- Khan should get the Floyd fight, but doubts he will.
- He found nothing out about the TR lawsuit when he was at Arum's house. The info he learned there was regarding Brook-Rios. He was one of 15 other people watching the TruTV fights (which were not on in his hotel room). Other's at Arum's house were the WBO president Paco Varcacel, Felix Verdejo, Sergey Kovalev, and Kovalev's manager.
- Kovalev was only there socially because his manager also promotes Lomachenko (TR fighter). Kovalev is not leaving Main Events.
- One of the biggest upsets he ever covered was Klitschko vs. Brewer.
- Many believe in the theory that Mayweather is holding the September date hostage to hurt GB and Alvarez.
- Picking Herrera by decision.
- Best under the radar fight coming up? Saturday - Nietes vs. Rodriguez for Nietes' 108 lb title. Picking Nietes.
- Interested in a Crawford vs. Bradley fight.
- Bradley vs. Ali is the mandatory and it should be next.
- Picking Harrison to win, but Nelson seemed really ready at the press conference.
- Thurman wants to fight Floyd, but he isn't obsessed with it like Khan. He knows he can't make Floyd fight him and will move on regardless.
- Does not know why fighter's sit their kids ringside for their fights. Has seen many kids in tears during fights watching their Dad.
- Got to be a part of a Funny or Die sketch regarding Rocky vs. Drago. Should be released by the end of July.
- Bute will be back 8/15 on NBCSN.
- Would love to see Thurman vs. Maidana.
- Could see there being a rematch of Kovalev vs. Pascal.
- Barry Hunter told him there is a possibility of a PBC card later this year in DC. No word on who would be on it, but the Peterson brother's and GRJ are from DC.
- Lamont Peterson is looking to return in September.
- Would love to see an HBO Face Off for Wlad-Fury.
- Doesn't think Spence is ready yet for Thurman.
- Chagaev vs. Pianetea isn't a bad fight, just bad that it is for a belt.
- Wilder vs. Povetkin would not be until early 2016 at the soonest.
- Vitali Klitscko will easily make the HOF.
- Winky Wright knows that Dan has named boxers who turn down good paying fights or take long layoffs for little reason as part of the Winky Wright School of Business. They joke about it.
- Imam vs. Fernado Angula was added to the July 18th Showtime card.
- Adonis Stevenson's next fight will be September 11th on Spike TV. No opponent yet. Likely to take place in Toronto.
- Does not know of any boxing siblings that have ever fought each other in an official match.
- Believes that Bradley is serious in saying he would take fights at 154 and 160 (GGG).
- PPV buys for Ward vs. GGG? If it was this fall, under 350k.
- Old man boxing tourney: Mosley, DLH, Tito, Mayorga, and Vargas? Mosley vs. DLH 3 would be the final.
- 94th birthday of Jake LaMotta. LaMotta once walked into a NY bar he and other writer's were at and introduced himself as Robert De Niro.
- Had Judah beating Matthysse in a very close fight.
- Doubtful we see a Broner vs. Maidana rematch any time soon.
- JCC won't be much different with Garcia as his trainer. He is who he is.
- Expect Chocolatito back in the fall on GGG's undercard.

JCC was on the verge of fighting GGG for his biggest payday and signed with Al Haymon instead. So Haymon gives him a bigger fighter and he gets KO'd for less money and it's because JCC doesn't deserve GGG? Remember that interview with Max Kellerman nwhen he calls out Haymon's influence on fighters and how he mismatches his fighters but knows how to pitch them well? He also mentions Russell Jr and what might happen to him once he fights a good fighter and BAM! Lomachenko easily schools Jr. This argument has been going on for years and now we are seeing his full vision in play with PBC. With all these good fights that he presented, how many of them had meaning to them? Only the ones that did not include Haymon fighters. And his fighters lose.

Thurman: I Want Amir Khan, Not Stuttering Spence!

Posted by: Victor Salazar on 7/13/2015 .

By Victor Salazar

Tampa, Florida - For Keith Thurman (26-0, 22 KO’s) his options are plentiful in a loaded welterweight division on the Premier Boxing Champions Series. After his victory over Luis Collazo, Thurman says he just wants the big names.

“I want Amir Khan, Marcos Maidana and Shawn Porter,” Thurman told BoxingScene.com. “This is boxing I want to fight the same guys you want me to fight. Right now we would like Amir Khan. He has finally started mentioning Keith Thurman’s name. When I hear those syllables coming out a fighters mouth, that’s what I like.”

The reason he wants Amir Khan is because he feels Khan is overrated and if Khan wants to prove he’s elite, he should take on a real welterweight like himself.

“I’ve said before that Amir Khan does not truly belong in the welterweight division,” said Thurman. “So if he truly wants to make a statement in the division, he should fight a true welterweight like a Keith Thurman or a Shawn Porter. His fellow countrymen, Kell Brook fought a great welterweight in Shawn Porter. So I would like to see Amir Khan do the same thing.

Recently the Floyd Mayweather camp have mentioned a fight between Keith Thurman and Errol Spence as a way for Thurman to prove himself against young welterweights. Thurman has dismissed the notion because he doesn’t feel Spence wants the fight.

“That boy (Errol Spence) don’t want it in the near future, his Uncle Floyd adopted him and told him to say that statement,” stated an amped up Thurman. “If he really wanted to state that statement, he wouldn’t have stuttered when he said it. He’s a young talented fighter. I sound like Floyd right now saying that. He hasn’t fought a B Class fighter. He keeps fighting these one week replacements. Go ahead and fight Diego Chaves, go fight Luis Collazo, or any ex world champion that I fought before you say my name out your mouth.”

Aside from not wanting the fight. Thurman feels Spence doesn’t deserve the fight. Even if Mayweather was to offer up one of the many ABC belts that he holds.

“C’mon, that’s Floyd playing games,” explained Thurman about fighting for one of the belts Mayweather may or may not dropped. “If he (Mayweather) wants to offer up something, tell him to offer 10 Million Dollars. If he’s about money and wants to make great fights, throw up some dollar bills. But at the end of the day, Spence needs to earn that shot.”

So Haymon put a gun to his head and made him sign? Man that's some Suge Knight shit.

So Haymon gives him a bigger fighter and he gets KO'd for less money and it's because JCC doesn't deserve GGG?
So all smaller fighters get KO'd? Shit man why is Floyd still undefeated? Jr does NOT take boxing serious just like Broner doesn't take it serious. Blame the fighter.

I don't remember it but you can post it if you like.

This argument has been going on for years and now we are seeing his full vision in play with PBC. With all these good fights that he presented, how many of them had meaning to them? Only the ones that did not include Haymon fighters. And his fighters lose.
It's not about "his fighters" battle. Take him out of the picture. It's about a new brand a new way/format to distribute boxing to the public.

Use your brain, breh.

HERESY @HERESY PBC is not showing a new format for boxing. We already had FNF, GB Live, and all the Spanish channels showing boxing. Him putting big manes up for free is cool, but only if it means something. Garcia vs Peterson was meaningless yet we could have found out who wanted the title more by both of them making weight for their titles that they held and we probably would have seen a better performance. I love anything free, but shit I'm not desperate either.

How Amir Khan can become the next PPV King?

khan777776By AK: Amir Khan seems to get a whole lot of criticism especially on this boxing website. Some say he has got a glass chin, others say he clinches too much, and some just believe he is not that good, or they just do not like his arrogance.

The truth is Amir Khan has a large fan base weather it’s the British public, the Pakistani community, or even the Muslim community. Not saying that the whole of the British public are fans of him, but one thing that can be said about the British public is that they always back there fighters and come in numbers no matter the location in big fights. Amir Khan attracts fans which therefore attracts PPVs.

For the last two years Amir Khan has spent a great deal of his time chasing after the Floyd Mayweather fight and so far it has not happened. There is a chance he might get chosen for Mayweather’s 49 bout but there is no guarantee.

I believe Amir Khan should forget about the Mayweather fight and create his own legacy without Mayweather in the picture. At the prime of his boxing career it is a shame for him to keep chasing someone that in reality just keeps playing games with him.

As of now Amir Khan has Kell brook more than willing the fight him. That fight would be huge and easily sell out Wembley. This fight is very winnable for Amir Khan due to him being the better boxer. Apart from Floyd Mayweather there are not many boxers that could outbox Amir Khan in a 12 round fight. For some reason I do not understand why this fight does not take place, maybe they think it will be bigger in the future, but Amir khan does not seem to want the fight to happen and does not think Kell Brook is big enough. Some believe Amir is dodging Kell brook, but I believe this to be false as Amir Khan has always fought the best and has been willing the fight anyone. But I am certain this fight will happen sometime in the future.

What Amir khan has been doing in his last 2 fights is the right move and if he continues fighting top fighters with well known names then I am certain he will become the next PPV king. It’s not only Kell brook who would be a big fight for him. I just mentioned Kell brook because I believe it’s the biggest one for him at this moment. A fight against Danny Garcia would also be huge due to their rivalry. A fight against Keith Thurman would be a big fight due to Keith being undefeated. An Adrien Broner fight would be huge, just the build up from the two guys would easily sell the fight. The options for Amir are unlimited. All these fighters mentioned above I see Amir Khan winning all of them. They wouldn’t be easily but on his day Amir Khan wins them all. Kell brook is a good fighter but seems to be very one dimensional and does not seems to have a plan b. His biggest fight he has had happened to be a very controversial fight against Shawn Porter. Against Danny Garcia, Amir Khan was out boxing him easily and ended up getting carried away. If a rematch took place and Amir Khan is more composed he would end up winning. Adrian Broner was been exposed in the past and is simply not good enough for the 140lb division all the way up to the 154lb division. Keith Thurman would be tough but seems to relay on his power to much and is to flat footed.
The main problem with Amir Khan is that he is one punch from disaster. If he stays clam and follows his game plan then for sure you are looking at the next PPV king. A fight against Floyd Mayweather would not be a wise move for him as I believe he would mostly likely lose. At the age of 28 Amir Khan cannot afford to rebuild his career once again.

Apart from money if you check Mayweather’s last 18 opponents you come to realize that not many did much with their career in terms of legacy after they fought Floyd. Two good examples of fighters who carried on with their career in a positive fashion are Carnelo Alveraz, and Miguel Cotto, the rest just ended up fading away, retired, or end up fighting way out of their prime. Yes, there is a fair case for Juan Manuel Márquez winning one of his biggest fights of his career after Floyd but that is it, in terms of his last 18 opponents.

To sum up, the way Amir Khan can become to the next PPV king is by forgetting about the Floyd Mayweather fight and just fight the best in the division who are willing to fight him. In terms of talent, he has got it. In terms of fans he already has a large gathering. Even though some people do not like khan you have to admit that he is an exciting fighter and does not have many boring bouts. And finally Amir Khan knows how to sell a fight. Everything you need for a PPV King
