Jermain Taylor in New Alleged Attack, Warrant Issued

By TMZ Sports

Former middleweight champ Jermain Taylor is a wanted man -- TMZ Sports has learned an arrest warrant has been issued after JT allegedly attacked a man at a rehab center.

The Pulaski County Sheriff's Department in Arkansas tells us the warrant was issued this morning. Taylor is suspected of 2nd degree battery. So far, he is NOT in police custody.

As for the backstory ... law enforcement sources tell us Taylor allegedly attacked another patient at a rehab facility in Little Rock on May 13th ... knocking the man to the floor.

We're told the alleged victim was transported to a nearby hospital -- and was treated in the intensive care unit.

Taylor has been in rehab on a court order since March following a string of disturbing incidents -- including an altercation at a parade where Taylor allegedly pulled a gun on a family and another incident where he shot his cousin.

Taylor's attorney Christian Alexander says he believes the complaint is "frivolous" -- and says he's already spoken with witnesses who believe the whole thing is a shameless attempt to shake down a famous athlete.

The legal issues forced the IBF to strip Taylor of his newly won middleweight title several months ago. The belt is being contested n June 20th between David Lemieux and Hassan N'Dam.

Mysterious junior flyweight Ali Raymi killed in Yemen
May 28, 2015

Ali RaymiJunior flyweight boxer Ali Raymi, who began his career with 21 straight first-round knockout wins, died this past weekend in his native Yemen, his manager confirmed. He was 41 years old.

Rumors had circulated across the internet that Raymi, whose social media rants against every and all champions in the lighter weights had made him a subject of interest and mock praise among hardcore fans, had died during an explosion in the Yemen capital of Sana’a that took place on Saturday, May 23.

“Unfortunately, it’s true,” Felix J. Arno, the manager listed on Boxrec for Raymi, told RingTV in an email. A website purported to be that of the Yemen Boxing Federation also states that he had died.

Yemen has been in a state of civil war since March of this year as factions loyal to two groups fight for control of the country. Agence France-Presse reports that Saudi Arabia warplanes had launched air raids against the Iran-backed rebel factions from the south on the day Raymi died, but attacks specifically on Sana’a weren’t mentioned.

Raymi channeled much of the attitude of Prince Naseem Hamed, the British Hall of Fame featherweight of Yemeni descent, in his public offerings, claiming in a 2013 FightNews interview, “My chin is titanium, my fists are uranium.”

Raymi called out unbeaten maestros like Roman Gonzalez and Guillermo Rigondeaux and claimed they had ducked him, leading hardcore fans to wonder if Raymi was conducting an elaborate troll act or the most confident fighter alive.

An email to this writer claiming to be from Raymi offered then-WBO minimumweight champion Merlito Sabillo $100,000 to come to Yemen for a fight.

“If I get an okay from you I will start the process with Al-Saleh foundation to make a $100,000 deposit in an escrow account for Merlito Sabillo. If you don’t think he will want to do it, I rather know now so I don’t piss off everybody with another no show,” Raymi wrote to this writer in January 2014.

Details of Raymi’s life are difficult to confirm due to a lack of domestic media coverage. What’s known is that he turned pro in 2011, fighting exclusively in Yemen against fighters who fought exclusively at the same two venues he had fought all 25 of his pro fights, the 22 May Sports Stadium and Yemen Boxing Federation Gym in Sana’a.

“My style is intentionally natural, I will fight till the last moment of my biological existence,” Raymi said in the same interview. “I don’t like discussing my pre-boxing past as I feel it will be considered inappropriately semi-legendary.”

His last fight on March 28 saw him stop a fighter named Omar Moxamad in the first round. Raymi walked to the ring accompanied by men carrying automatic rifles and wearing shirts with the initials TGE, or “The Greatest Ever,” a play on Floyd Mayweather’s “The Best Ever” monicker.

Though Raymi had his skeptics, he was ranked No. 6 by the WBA at 108 pounds and No. 8 by the WBO at 105 pounds at the time of his death. His final record is 25-0 (25 knockouts).

Jessie Vargas Hires Erik Morales as Trainer, Jones is Out

Earlier today former WBA super lightweight champion Jessie Vargas took to his Twitter page to announce that he would now be training under the guidance of Mexican legend Erik "El Terrible" Morales. He had previously been trained by another legend, Roy Jones Jr.

Vargas said that he has always been impressed with Morales and feels that his training methods will serve him well.

''I have always liked Erik's style and now I have the privilege to be guided by him. He focuses on a lot of details and is giving me a lot of advice. He explains himself well'' said Vargas.

As for Jones, Vargas said that he has a lot of respect for his former trainer and also said that he gave him his blessing to make the switch. Jones is still an active fighter and Vargas feels he needs a trainer that will be with him everyday in camp for his June 27th showdown against Tim Bradley for the vacant WBO welterweight title. A fight which is the biggest in the undefeated Vargas' career.

''Roy was very busy at the moment. He had several obligations that he had committed to which I completely understand. I always knew he was very busy with all the things that he has going on. He's a promoter, works with HBO and has certain appearances that he has to attend and now he is preparing himself for a fight on the 4th of July''.

''I have love for Roy. He's a great guy. I did explain to him what I was thinking and he was okay with it. It is the biggest fight of my career and I needed someone with me on a daily basis'' Vargas told BoxingScene.com.

Bradley-Vargas takes place June 27th at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. and will be broadcasted by HBO.

Fantastic. So much for a fight with Rigondeaux.
Word is Rigondeaux is going to sign with Haymon and ditch his horrible manager. He said stay tuned for a big announcement in September and that's when his contract with Gary Hyde expires.

In the meantime I'd love to watch Frampton beat the shit out of Leo Santa Cruz.

TMZ Sports has obtained photos of the man who claims he was brutally attacked by ex-middleweight champion Jermain Taylor in a rehab facility earlier this month ... and it's clear, dude got pummeled.

Taylor was placed in the facility after a string of strange and violent behavior, including the shooting of his cousin. He was stripped by the IBF of his middleweight crown several months ago.

As we previously reported, officials in Arkansas issued a warrant for Taylor's arrest after the May 13th incident ... in which the alleged victim was sent to the ICU of a nearby hospital for treatment.

Sources close to the alleged victim tell us ... the man claims he was leaving dinner at the rehab center and was walking back to his sleeping area, when he encountered Taylor.

The man claims he extended his hand to greet Taylor -- but the boxer slapped his hand away and proceeded to beat the crap out of him.

The alleged victim underwent surgery to treat his injuries and is currently on the mend.

Taylor's attorney says the allegations are completely frivolous.

So far, we're told the victim doesn't plan to sue -- but is cooperating with police in the criminal investigation.

Curious if your opinion on head trauma regarding Taylor has changed. He was never like this before, by all accounts a pretty good guy. Seems radically different now...

Jermain Taylor is adamant he's NOT a criminal -- and blames his recent string of bizarre and troubling behavior on mental illness.

Taylor appeared in an Arkansas courtroom moments ago in connection with an incident at an MLK Day parade earlier this year in which he allegedly pulled a gun on a family and fired multiple shots.

The former IBF middleweight champ pled not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect ... and his attorney requested that the boxer undergo another mental evaluation.

But instead of returning to his rehab facility -- where he allegedly assaulted another man this month -- the judge ordered Taylor to go to jail because he violated his conditions of release.

Taylor's attorney tells TMZ Sports, "He’s in good spirits. I don’t think he’s upset about it. He wants to be out. He has kids."

Meantime, Jermain's mother exploded on the media outside the courtroom ... saying he's a good guy who's done A LOT for the state of Arkansas and the United States of America.

I think you're mistaken what I said. I never doubted that dude suffered injuries from boxing what I was saying was that if dude passes his medicals/physicals I'm not for taking a guys method of making money when he's a grown adult surrounded by other grown adults.

We don't force guys in coal mines to quit, or crab boats, or any other job on the planet because it can be deadly. I realize that I'm watching a brutal sport where the participants are possibly causing themselves serious damage. This wasn't Meldrick Taylor fighting in unsanctioned fights when he wasn't able to talk and was clearly non competitive, Jermain had just won a title.

It's unfortunate what happened to Taylor and I definitely feel bad for him but I'd have to imagine that everyone that gets in the ring, especially these days, is well aware of the risks every time they step in the ring.

I know it's an unpopular opinion but I've never called for guys to retire or quit in any business, especially in ones where the window to make big money is slim.

It's a liability though. You can definately tell someone not to work.
If you want to be a truck driver, you need a Class A license. If you are mentally and\or physically incapable of driving then they will not issue a license. Thus why you can get your license revoked if you don't pass certain tests, even after obtaining your license.
If I get smashed by a semi, by someone they "slid through the system", knowing he shouldn't have been driving, I'm filing a huge lawsuit.

A warehouse worker could have a bad back, is the company going to hire him? Hell no, that's just a workers comp case waiting to happen.

Same with boxing. Let's say (hypothetically) my brother is clearly unfit to enter the ring. He has a mental and\or physical issue which clearly puts him in a position to collect state disability if he wanted to. A state gives him a license, they sanction a fight, and he becomes even more disabled to the point that he cannot even function. I would definitely file for litigation.

People just want to protect their ass. I don't blame them. The guy is a loose canon.
You can't beat someone up at rehab. Pull guns out at an event. What the hell is wrong with this guy...
