knockout of the year and upset of the year might both go to Jhonny Gonzalez. That was pretty shocking in my opinion.

That could be the case. Broner losing was a pretty huge upset and no one saw that coming either. Plus as a Broner fan I was incredibly shocked lol. But I have to say I was also incredibly shocked when Mares lost also. Got Em!!

I think everyone was surprised by the Broner loss too to some extent. I think most of us who are objective on our opinions have been saying for awhile that Broner had his flaws and his level of competition wasn't very high up to this point. Maidana was the best guy he has faced so far. Mares had been beating the best that were available, straight up. By available, I mean he obviously couldn't fight Top Rank guys. He has shown a great chin and got ko'd in the first round when Gonzalez has looked to be done a few times in his career.

Do you think Mares is making a mistake by immediately rematching Gonzalez coming up here soon? First round KO rematches rarely work out well for the guy who was KOd. I would have liked to see him fight a comeback fight first, just to rebuild that confidence a bit.

But at the same time I don't think Gonzalez is with GBP, hence the rematch clause. If anything Gonzalez probably would have gone to HBO and lost it there and there goes Mares' marketability. But that's what I mean by if Floyd is to give up his 147 title to Manny Showtime wouldn't like it cuz they would prefer to lose the title to someone in the network than to HBO. Look at Molina Jr, he beat Bey fought undercard of HBO and lost right? now no one gives a fuck about him

Yes and no. I think he was also developing flaws and regressing in his technique. He was more technically sound early in his career I think when he was working with Beristain. As he's gotten older, he's thrown caution to the wind a little more and has been able to go toe to toe with a pretty sick lineup of decent-good punchers and usually got the best of them. It was really just a small mistake that I don't think he'll make again against Gonzalez BUT Gonzalez can't be taken lightly at all. My wife hates boxing, but she watched that fight with me and she said he looked too comfortable (with life in general) as they were doing that extended intro on him before the fight. He looked a little vulnerable against PDL too but was able to win. At this weight, Gonzalez could turn your lights out in any round if you're Mares. He should be fine and could restore all of his confidence with a win but another ko loss would damage his career something awful. I don't think a rematch helps him that much in my personal opinion unless he fixes any and all technical flaws by taking a lesser match.
